Scot, according to CBS Sports (during the halftime of the Alabama vs. Auburn game) things were not as serious as the first reports indicated. Apparently he was treated at the hospital for lacerations on his face and has been released. This report was very different from what they had first said during the game. From this report at least, things aren’t as serious as they first sounded. I hope this is true.

It appears things aren’t as bad as originally reported. According to CNN at 4;27pm today:
(CNN) — Golfer Tiger Woods was taken to a Florida hospital after suffering facial injuries in a car crash early Friday, police said.
The one-car accident occurred about 2:25 a.m. near Woods’ home in Windermere, a suburb of Orlando, according to an incident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
A statement from Woods’ publicist and Health Central Hospital called the accident “minor” and said Woods was “admitted, treated and released today in good condition.”
Woods, 33, had just pulled out of his driveway in his 2009 Cadillac SUV and had begun to drive down a street when he struck a fire hydrant, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The front of his vehicle then struck a tree.
Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn told CNN that local police arrived within two minutes of being notified. The golfer was taken to Health Central Hospital, where he was treated for facial lacerations and released, Bruhn said.
“I think it’s nothing more than an accident,” he said.
A woman who answered a phone there Friday afternoon said he was not there.
The crash is under investigation, and charges are pending, though it was not clear who could face charges. The accident did not appear to have been alcohol-related, the Florida Highway Patrol statement said.
Woods lives in Orange County with his wife, supermodel Elin Nordegren, and two children.
Woods has won 93 tournaments, 71 of those on the PGA Tour, including the 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2005 Masters Tournaments; 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2007 PGA Championships; 2000, 2002, and 2008 U.S. Open Championships; and 2000, 2005 and 2006 Open Championships, according to his official Web site.

Scott, thanks. The word “seriously injured” was the early report and folks magnified it.

Don’t you find it a bit strange that the first reporting about this was a statement issued by the Florida Highway Patrol approximately 12 hours after the incident? Is it reasonable to accept the premise that you back out of your driveway and run into a fire hydrant, then run into a tree in your neghbor’s yard at 2:30 in the morning and that ‘The accident did not appear to have been alcohol-related,’ the Florida Highway Patrol statement said. The inclusion of the alcohol statement leads many of us to wonder why there is any mention of it at all, especially if ‘charges are pending’ as reported by CNN. Such a statement only serves to confuse and/or obfuscate, rather than lend clarity to the situation. Since the FHP reportedly stated that he was transported to the hospital in ‘serious condition,’ why can’t his publicist and the hospital seem to get ahead of such reporting with 12 hours lead time, and then reportedly state that the accident was “minor” and Woods was “admitted, treated and released today in good condition?” I know that the media can’t be relied upon to get the facts straight, but this incongruence seems just a bit too much to figure out what really happened.

Leaving at 2:25 in the morning…sounds like he was “teed off”. (Okay. Sorry. I couldn’t help myself.)

There was a report that Tiger’s wife used a golf club to break the back window of his SUV–apparently after the accident Also that when the police arrived Tiger was lying on the street with cuts on his face and blood in his mouth and going in and out of consciousness. This was from an ESPN scroll.

Lee Jansen’s theory, that he might have been on his way to work out, makes sense given that he recently returned from down under where he won yet another tournament, this time in Australia.
I wonder if he had OnStar in his Cadillac SUV? That would make for a great personal testimony in a commercial, though OnStar probably would not have been of any help if the air bags didn’t deploy.

I think it is enough to know Tiger is ok. In Florida there is no requirement for him to tell the police what happened. How’s that for privacy. And why do we need to know what really happened? Are we just nosey..or do we hope he has a secret drug or alchohol problem, or maybe his marriage sucks too.
