Merry Christmas from Chicago!

A must-read on the rising surge against Islam by Bob Smietana.

A must-read on science and faith by Tim Stafford (HT: AC).
A must-watch documentary?
A must-read on Lesslie Newbigin.
A must-read on spiritual gifts.
A must-read on preaching.

A new kind of Periodic Table.
A new kind of Purim: Messianic Judaism and Hanukkah.
A new kind of awareness to academic realities.
Facebook is like the pacman gremlin gobbling away the numbers.
Preacher in the hands of an angry church.
Editor in the hands of a reading audience.
Fictional pastors in the hands of a reader.
Books in the hand of a good judge.
Church billboards in the hands of a radical.
Your job in the hands of Bradley Moore.
Meandering in the News
MoonChic.jpg1. Perhaps the most depressing article I read all week.
2. “Climate-gate” and George Will weighs in on the controversy too.
3. On jobs and the need for that “vast, chaotic entrepreneurial churn”: Rich Lowry.
4. Second City: 50 years old.
5. John Mark Reynolds says the Swiss minarets issue is small potatoes compared to the real issues — and he’s right. (But the minaret issue isn’t the tip of an iceberg on growing concern with Muslims.)
6. Do you button up?
7. Political language discussion: e.g., what does “progressive” mean?
8. Roland Martin’s rant. Personally, I agree that Obama’s Admin has to take responsibility, but that is not to say that a previous Admin’s legacy doesn’t last for a long, long time.
9. A bit long, but worth your read: on improving marriage.
10. Shocking brief editorial. Talk about shocking: Stanley Fish has a positive take on Sarah Palin’s autobiography.
Meandering in Sports
Wow, this is a big story waiting to happen. I’m all for it!
Can you believe those surfers in Hawaii?

Our Common Prayerbook 30 - 3
Psalm 30 thanks God (vv. 1-3, 11-12) and exhorts others to thank God (vv. 4-5). Both emerge from the concrete reality of David's own experience. Here is what that experience looks like:Step one: David was set on high and was flourishing at the hand of God's bounty (v. 7a).Step two: David became too

Theology After Darwin 1 (RJS)
One of the more important and more difficult pieces of the puzzle as we feel our way forward at the interface of science and faith is the theological implications of discoveries in modern science. A comment on my post Evolution in the Key of D: Deity or Deism noted: ...this reminds me of why I get a

Almost Christian 4
Who does well when it comes to passing on the faith to the youth? Studies show two groups do really well: conservative Protestants and Mormons; two groups that don't do well are mainline Protestants and Roman Catholics. Kenda Dean's new book is called Almost Christian: What the Faith of Ou

Let's Get Neanderthal!
The Cave Man Diet, or Paleo Diet, is getting attention. (Nothing is said about Culver's at all.) The big omission, I have to admit, is that those folks were hunters -- using spears or smacking some rabbit upside the conk or grabbing a fish or two with their hands ... but that's what makes this diet

Great stuff Scot – Stafford’s post on the elite 20%, on a different topic, is also worth a careful read.

Your Name

No time for all the links, but thanks for the George Will link about Climate-Gate. Have you seen the article renaming it The CRUtape Letters? Very well done….
And thanks for the link to the “positive” review of Palin’s book. I picked it up the day it came out while at Costco…and finished it is three days (which is almost a miracle for me these days!). As I read it, I relived the moment last year when many “regular” American women who are wives and mothers and hard workers (whether PTA officers, church and/or community volunteers, or in a career or other paid employment) who believe they can do whatever they feel called to do: “I am Sarah Palin”
