The portion about her meeting a fundamentalist begins just after the 2-minute mark.

Wow, you can just FEEL the love he oozes….
What I find especially off-putting is the way he calls her “darlin.” I’m continually sad that this sort of dude is our representation in the world. meh.

I was really offended by what he said about Catholicism (not surprised by it…but still offended). Of course our screwed-up religion doesn’t count (for as much crud as I get about plenary indulgences from the Renaissance…and this guy and his group are passing out “get out of hell free cards”?!).
I don’t agree with how Lady Gaga uses religious imagery in a lot of her shows and songs, but I understand that she does so deliberately. I would not be surprised if her understanding of theology was deeper than this guy’s. But even though she found his views repulsive, she still engaged him in a conversation, tried to find common ground. And he pushed that away and called her a pervert. Like mrs metaphor said, what a loving guy he must be.

Silica, I agree with you on the Catholic part. The sad thing about this ‘protest’ant/er is how incredibly ignorant of the Church they separated from.

Wow! What I’m most surprised with is her rock solid theology. “3000 people are lining up to see me, and nobody’s lining up to see him. So, who’s going to Hell?”
That’s rock solid stuff there.
Still, I am in COMPLETE agreement that this guys time (and mission, for that matter would be better served by going with just about ANY other approach.
Finally, I like Gaga as an artist (not so much a musician, but certainly as a performance artist), but lately she’s been actively attacking religion in general, and Christianity specifically. I admit that I am frustrated by that.

I have a feeling her comment about the lines was referring, not on how to escape the place called hell, but rather whose message is more accepting or who has the more attractive message (her or them).
I think many people will be surprised at how much her new album, coming May 13th, will have religious references, and inspired spiritual thought and discussion.
Also strange is that she’ll communicate using this type of God language to an audience that is, unlike her… as a child, *alien* to church (institutional or otherwise), biblical stories and references to God from scripture. This may revive these topics making far easier to engage her and her fans. Hopefully on a common starting ground (not like was done in this example.)
Be assured, God will use Gaga as *he* wishes. Believe it.
It is his spirit that draws us to him. Why is she interested in these topics no ones cares about these days? Maybe because Gaga may be starting the conversation that God will use for mighty things. I will pray toward that.

Thanks Lisa for a voice of reason and faith. Jesus’ message and God’s initiation does not contain any prejudices.
We need more voices like this.

It’s like when there’s a tornato, out of all the people, the news always finds the toothless-shirtless-white trash to interview, that guy is the shirtless-toothless-white trash of the American church.
His complete hatred and disgust for lost people is so like Jesus right?
Awful.
