...I know this is great glee to so many people but I also know this - the United States Senate has lost the ONLY Republican who regularly fought on behalf of compassion programs to help the poor. Yes, that speaks to the dismal state of the Republican party on compassion programs. But it is still a loss.
Dismal indeed. Let us hope the Santorum vacuum is filled with a compassionate Casey, and that the overall vaccum in the house is filled with more compassionate moderate Democrats. Democrats are picking up seats swiftly. The Kentucky-3 HRep race is particularly telling. Northrup lost. That pretty much was the general lithmus test to how the House races would turn out. As such, the lithmus test indicates a very bad day for the Republicans.

Any compassion Santorum displayed toward the poor was vastly outweighed by his ideological extremism and outright nuttiness. So, the clergy molestation scandal can be blamed on the "liberal culture of Boston"? So, our first Catholic President was not John F. Kennedy but George W. Bush? Don't letd the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Let us NEVER forget that Santorum will go down (you should pardon the expression) in history as an ignorant extremist who tried to equate gay relationships to "man-on-dog" sex. Frankly, I'm glad he was defeated. We are well rid of hate-mongers and bearers of false witness. It couldn't have happened to a nastier guy.
