note on Cory...

Thursday January 25, 2007

...in my post about Cory I wanted to make one thing clear. He wasn't being given the answers to a standarized test - he (and the rest of his class) were given the answers to an ordinary academic midterm (actually to three of them).

Having worked in after school programs (and having a wife that is a teacher) I don't think it would have been that extrodinary if they had been given the answers to a standardized test. It would have been a bit public. But it is possible for teacher to get their hand on test and run through a practice exam just before the real exam. Or to have teacher (or in one case I know of, a principal) read through answers and suggest that students revise some of their answers that were not right. I am not completely opposed to standardized testing, but high pressure tests (more really for the teachers and principals than the students) will cause some people to make bad decisions.
