As a person of no religion, I am tired of being subjected to inappropriate and often hypocritical appeals, paeans and testimonials by our leaders to beings that may or may not exist, are not proven to exist in any way, shape or form, and whose existence whether real or not should have no bearing on the governance of the nation. David, could you offer more in proof that loving Jesus is Hillary's primary color? I'm really not a Hillary-hater, but neither have I seen any clear evidence of her deep love of Jesus in the last two decades. Moreover, which Jesus do you maintain she loves? The liberal/non-divine/neo-gnostic Jesus of Pastor Philip Wogaman or the Jesus of the Nicene Creed?

It seems that only certain "Jesus lovers" are adequate. One of the temptations of religion is to create monsters in our minds that must be driven out. Basically, it keeps us from being self examining and such monsters (who are almost entirely built in our imaginations) loose their humanity in our minds. Clinton (either of them), Bush, Cheney, -if we must hate them then we are the problem. We prefer being right, religiously correct, faithful to a sort of civil religion that once again has nothing to do with the Jesus who calls me to follow him. The need for cartoon monsters in the form of George Bush or Hilary Clinton is simply close to a sort of accusing energy (satan means the accusor) than to any sort of faith. I'll repeat my mantra - If I am willing to serenely bear the burden of being displeasing to myself, I will be a pleasant place of shelter for Jesus." St. Therese was very young and very very faithful. Religio - means to bind together - when that which binds us together is our common hatreds, our common monsters - we are exhibiting a kind of primitive religious energy that needs blood - needs impeachment, needs to destroy.

Good thoughts, Thinker. Dave, I appreciate the human view inside the workings of power. It's easy to be cynical and doubt any real faith exists in places like you describe, but it's simple stories outside the spotlight that ring true, if only for a moment.

Beautiful post. Asking for forgivness is a true sign of courage. The intellect can sometimes block the heart from seeing what is essential. This story I am sure can be told of thousands less famous who also have taken the time for introspection and taken the action of seeking forgivness. That the story is about very powerful politicians brings hope to my troubled heart on a day that twenty servicemen died in Iraq.

It is good to see that Senator Brownback realized that his comments were wrong and not something Christ would condone. All Christ-followers are called to show the fruits of the spirit, which if truly showing, would not allow the hateful words that Brownback said about Hillary. Of course, Hillary has said much the same things and has refused to repent. Truthfully, Hillary Clinton does not know who Jesus is. She mocks his name when she uses it because she claims it falsly. That being said, she still deserves to be treated with the same respect that all people deserve (just look at the respect that Christ gave everyone.) Christ was clear to those who did not follow him about their need for life change, but he never spoke hate, but the truth in love. It would be nice if our elections turned on real issues. I believe if real issues are discussed Hillary and those who believe like her would never have a chance of winning, but our election hinge on lies told by the liberal media and ridiculous commercials filled with half truths. A politician who truly followed God and refused to do these things would have a hard time winning.

As far as I am able to discern, to "love Jesus" is to follow the precepts and teachings of His Father's book, our Bible. Many doubts spring to mind; I guess the first is this: If Mrs. Clinton loves Jesus, why is she eager to support the murder if the unborn? I won't debate the whole "when does life begin" issue, since it clearly begins at conception. I do agree that we are a nation under the rule of law. However, I think perhaps the blog's author should have thought before blithely categorizing Mrs. Clinton in the terms he used. Just one person's opinion. Thanks for the opportunity to share it.

None of us does a great job of reflecting the life that Jesus lived, the life that he modeled for us. We accuse one another of being against life when there is genuine intellectual and spiritual difference - some of us are against abortion but think war and capital punishment are just dandy. Others genuinely believe that life does not begin at conception and that we have an obligation to protect all life that is born. It's a messy, messy way to go. Scripture says nothing that can produce the kind of venom that we spew toward one another. Sitting back and saying "well, they're not really Christian". - it's a unloving and thus unChristian way to live our faith. I must say, I'm as guilty as anyone of this particular "abomination", but try to get beyond needing to be right. I want to follow the Lord - but I don't want to destroy others in the process. Why do we need such a vindictive God. the whole point of the cross seems to tell us that God is not violent - We are. And we can change.

Mrs Clinton a Christian?? Well I guess the same as John Kerry is a good Catholic. She supports the taking of human life.. abortion and stem cell research. I am not religious but I know the difference between right and wrong. Killing beautiful little children for any reason is wrong. One of those lives she supports taking could have the answer to curing aids or cancer. Maybe a way to slow global warming, of course maybe they might grow up to be a criminal. Atleast that innocent life should be given the chance to live. Oh your right if there is a God and I hope there is He is watching Mrs Clinton and is sad that a person with that much power chooses to support the killing of his most innocent creation.

David, please do not trumpet out Mrs. Clinton faith. Her works show her for what she truly is. When a person (male or female) make an open declaration to defy Christ Jesus and the clear teachings in New Testament, then it is fair to "judge" the person in a way that does not support their actions. That being said: Mrs. Clinton is for socialism/communism that will tax the family to horror. She is for a woman's right to murder their inconvenient children in ways that would make Molech blush. She is for turning unborn human beings into medicines to cure rich actors and their diseases. She is for the forever altering of marriage to appease a group of intolerant and viscious sexual militants, who will take control of society once licensed and loosed on it. (go to massresistence.org) She is no leader to anyone with an honest moral view of right and wrong. I don't care what her gender is. She is a Liberal-Democrat. She is not a good person, if we judge the content of her character. She is no hypocrite that's for sure. She is very open about the evil she promotes. Only God will help America, "if" we turn from our wicked ways and rid this country of socialist-Liberals by our voting process. Their hedonism and socialism/communism is a very bad mix. Hopefully a miracle will happen and no more Liberal-Democrats will gain control and power over the decent families of America. But the decay of our society is deep and festering. Now the sick are our doctors. If anyone still cares about freedom to decide things for themselves, they will realize the danger before all of our freedoms are decided by Liberals (Socialist Secular-Progressives). Mrs. Clinton represents a force of evil enveloping the Untied States the likes of which we can only imagine. Of course after reading the New Testament, we Christians should have expected people like her to rise sooner or later. The "Left?" Telling "certain" people what their itching ears want to hear. And now they number in the majority. Only God can save us from the power we apathetically have given to people like Clinton and her Liberal-Progressive hordes of anti-Christian activists.

I am surprised at the negative comments towards Mrs. Clinton. Do you not remember Jesus' own words? Jesus stated such things as "He who is without sin, cast the first stone." Paul stated that we are "saved through grace alone." We are not saved by works. For those who make all these negative comments: Who are you to judge the works of another? If we held your life up, would we see a perfect life that follows the will of Jesus every minute and with every word you utter? In just your negative comments here, you are negative to the vary words Jesus spoke. I admire people of Faith who are involved in Politics. I think it has to be one of the hardest professions (along with lawyers) to live out one's faith. What gets me excited on this election is that there appears to be some people of real faith running that don't try to wear their faith as show, but instead try their best to live out their faith. Senators Clinton, Brownback, and Obama are three such examples. While evangelicals may want to focus on "litmus" tests of one's Faith, they ignore that there are many ways one lives out their faith. Sen. Obama's work with inner city and the poor is just one example that came long before he had any political aspirations. He heard Jesus call to care for the sick, the poor, and the lame and did something about it. Yet, you have Senators who want to cut aid to the poor to provide perks to their rich contributors. How contrary to Jesus' words. Thanks David for the good post. I do hope she talks about her faith and Barack and Sen. Brownback do too. It will be a glaring light that no matter if they win or not, may help people come to know our Lord. For this is the ultimate test of one's faith (i.e., do they keep it hidden or do they let their light shine so others can come to know Jesus).
