Gov. Romney’s “religion issue”, con’t

posted by J-Walking | 9:16am Wednesday February 14, 2007

Last night on ABC’s Primetime, a polygamous community in Arizona was gently profiled. Though ABC went out of its way to try and leave the Mormon faith’s name out of the profile – undoubtedly because the Mormon church is officially against polygamy – this piece and all the others like it that will be coming out raise questions about the Mormon faith that Gov. Romney does not want to face. Past racism (some say current racism) and past polygamy help contribute to the recent poll out from USA Today showing that only 72% of Americans would consider voting for a qualified Mormon presidential nominee (versus 88% for a female nominee and 92% for a black nominee).

Back...
I'm back here at JWalking after a bit of time because I just want someplace to record thoughts from time to time. I doubt that many of the thoughts will be political - there are plenty upon plenty of people offering their opinions on everything political and I doubt that I have much to add that will

Learning to tell a story
For the last ten months or so I've been engaged in a completely different world - the world of screenwriting. It began as a writing project - probably the 21st Century version of a yen to write the great American novel - a shot at a screenplay. I knew that I knew nothing about the art but was inspir

I have real difficulty with a religous Mormon being President just as many had difficulty with JFK almost 50 years ago. But JFK was essentially a ‘cultural Catholic’ as opposed to a religious one. There is a difference. I suppose Mitt Romney is not the kind of religious person that say Sam Brownback is. Sam wears his faith passionately and although I disagree with him on many many issues, I respect his integrity. Wouldn’t vote for Brownback, but I also wouldn’t go after him. Would just reasonably state my difference. Just can’t say the same about Mitt. He ran for governor on a platform of quite moderate positions on abortion and gay rights and to suddenly and conveniently deny those is – kind of icky. I prefer knowing where a person stands. don’t mind being in disagreement with someone, but hate slimy things that change with the wind. I suspect Mitt is a bit more like that – doesn’t have much to do with his Mormon religion – has a good deal to do with his lack of integrity. I might agree with Mitt on his more moderate stands, but still wouldn’t vote for him. Don’t know if that makes sense.

I’m not voting for a person thst adheres to a deceptive version of Christianity. If Romney were as honest as Joseph Smith (please see the sarcasm here), he would come out and say that he adheres to the “new” faith delivered a second time to the . . . well . . . third, fourth, fifth ot sixth time . . . to the saints. Sorry Mitt, until you, like J. Smith, declare all Christian denominations as apostate; AS SMITH DID SAY AND WRITE, you are not honest in “your” faith. Oh, and yeah . . . Jesus is not the spiritual “brother” of Satan. But also Mitt . . . the job you did in Massachusetts was horrible for anyone that even thinks he or she is a Christian. California and Massachusetts. The New Sodom and Gomorrah. massresistance.orgGo there and see Romney’s legacy!! Like I would want to see Romney President. NO!!! Way!!!
