Dancing... or drinking through life

So Rod Dreher's sister is battling cancer. It is nasty. Their faith is extraordinary. Here's his latest post (I think)

Back...
I'm back here at JWalking after a bit of time because I just want someplace to record thoughts from time to time. I doubt that many of the thoughts will be political - there are plenty upon plenty of people offering their opinions on everything political and I doubt that I have much to add that will

Learning to tell a story
For the last ten months or so I've been engaged in a completely different world - the world of screenwriting. It began as a writing project - probably the 21st Century version of a yen to write the great American novel - a shot at a screenplay. I knew that I knew nothing about the art but was inspir

And just one more
I have, I think, just one more round of chemo left.
When I go through my pill popping regimen tomorrow morning it will be the last time for this particular round of drugs. Twenty-three rounds, it seems, is enough.
What comes next? We'll go back to what we did after the surgery. We'll watch and measu

A Newfie for Obama
NPR asked me to do a short memo to the president-elect. I chose to do it on the dog he should choose... and why. Check it out.

What dilemma is that David? Obama is just another Liberal-Progressive. Another bad candidate for a leader of a people desiring not to be led by socialists. The taxation that would follow an Obama win would be terrible for the families of honest hard-working American citizens. Can’t we find candidates that are not self-serving egotist-elitists from Ivy League Colleges? Why can’t we get a few candidates that really represent the people? There are many, many, Christians that are niether black or white. In fact, according to the New Testament, Christians should dispense with the whole race deal anyway. And certainly abortion promoting people should not be supported by Christians. No matter how slick their political speeches. Christians don’t have a dilemma in their choice, just a choice. Conservative Christians may be the target of slick Democrat strategies, but never will they ever cause as much as an eyebrow raise of worry from Christians. And of course no matter how they huff and puff and morph their political machine to look Christian-like, it will take nothing from the Gospel in reality. No, I take that back on the personal level. They (Democrats) will cause agony when some children of some Christians stop “being” conservative and following good examples and follow the Liberal-Progressive example of how life should be lived by legislative force.Notice the behaviors start sometime after they get a “Liberal-Progressive” taste of “life.” Life the socialist and licentious way. A terrible mix for keeping ones morality in good stead. No matter what Obama says or does to run for President, he is a Liberal-Democrat Socialist through and through. That situation is being realized already, so, Christians are deaaling with their involvement with Democrat ideology “and” theology. In the end the Gospel will not be jettisoned for a seat in Washington on the left side of the aisle. This involvement with Democrats in the Christian community will pass. It’ll take some victims with it (the chaff from the wheat), but it will pass.Ever heard of the “Roaring Twenties?” God has a way of dealing with a liberal view of licentiousness. And if ANY word describes what the Democrats promote from the party platform on up, it is lascivious “licentiousness.”So David, why are you getting such a kick out of the Christians facing debauchery pointed straight at them from the Democrats? (No pun intended.) What the Democrats bring to America is a slice of Cuban and Venezuelan Pie.An old Russian recipe, not that of an American grandma. If we could somehow miraculously wipe away racial definitions from the United States, Obama would still be a socialist liberal Democrat.Nothing to worry about if not voted for.

I’m not a democrat, but having lived in a psuedo socialist country (West Germany) within a few hundred meters of a communist country, I dont see how the democrats could be called socialist. Last I heard, they didn’t intend to nationalize any industries or make any radical changes to the economy. Taxation is something that anyone in power is going to have to deal with after the last 6 years of spend and don’t tax. And licentiousness knows no party.

I am not a Democrat and never will be one. What you need to see and hear Matt, is the same sounds that preceded Germany becoming a socialist country. And of course in due time, a socialist country that rejected God in the town square and education system. The Democrats are literaly saying the same things. “Socializing” whole industries as well under the label “Progressive.” This spells doom for the idea of individuality, unless your a heroin addict. All you need to do is take a look at the inner-city and subsidized dwellers. They want everyone to take care of them without as much as lifting a finger to put in to society anything accept a form for more subsidized living. It is frightening in a way watching America embracing people that are not going to carry on the American dream. The dream that was once making something of yourself, has now been altered to be a society hell-bent on having everyone living the same life or being legally labeled a bigot or some kind of phobic. I thought Russian coomunism was a failure? Then why are the Democrats spouting this “socialism?” If I close my eyes and just listen to what Obama and Clinton and any Democrat says these days, it sounds like “a chicken in every pot, a car in every garage.” But not earned. Those things will be brought to everyone by a few hard working and honest people.Don’t the dying American car companies tell us that communism is a failure? Unions are nothing less than a collective desiring something for nothing. Once they fail, they intensify they need for subsidies. It is like feeding a cancer instead of altering the life to not get cancer. Darwin forbid that moral accountability be entered into the political discussion.I hear the Democrats loud and clear. Taxes, taxes, taxes. I hear Lenin and Stalin.I also hear the Apostle Paul’s advice when I hear Democrats targeting my family, my job and my honest, hard-working lifestyle: “Why not rather be wronged?” Unfortunately, with the rise of Democrat power, we are going to be wronged. But at least they cannot turn me into one of them. They can only subjugate me.

Will all due respect, Steven, you didnt address my points at all. What industries are they discussing nationalizing? You look to the past, but Im talking about right now. Name anything on the democrat agenda that is demonstrably socialist.Because you can scream about the culture war all you want, its not economic policy. Socialist economic policy is about government ownership of industry. It is about full employment, regardless if there is work. It is about a reduction in private ownership of anything: property or business. So, again, please describe where the democrats are advocating this as a party.
