Dancing... or drinking through life
I am not even sure that I know how to do a link anymore. I'm giving it a shot though so, three readers, please forgive me if I mess this up.
So Rod Dreher's sister is battling cancer. It is nasty. Their faith is extraordinary. Here's his latest post (I think)

Back...
I'm back here at JWalking after a bit of time because I just want someplace to record thoughts from time to time. I doubt that many of the thoughts will be political - there are plenty upon plenty of people offering their opinions on everything political and I doubt that I have much to add that will

Learning to tell a story
For the last ten months or so I've been engaged in a completely different world - the world of screenwriting. It began as a writing project - probably the 21st Century version of a yen to write the great American novel - a shot at a screenplay. I knew that I knew nothing about the art but was inspir

And just one more
I have, I think, just one more round of chemo left.
When I go through my pill popping regimen tomorrow morning it will be the last time for this particular round of drugs. Twenty-three rounds, it seems, is enough.
What comes next? We'll go back to what we did after the surgery. We'll watch and measu

NPR asked me to do a short memo to the president-elect. I chose to do it on the dog he should choose... and why. Check it out.

I think you are very, very fortunate to know pastors whose sermons you want to hear over and over. I suspect in most congregations the sheep would start counting each other.

Our pastor is the best preacher I have ever heard – ever – anyplace. Don’t want to exaggerate here – but people leave church and you hear reverberations of his homily (Catholic for sermon) – for weeks. His Easter homily three years ago – still comes up in conversation. Kids at school will bring up Fr’s sermon. Now Catholic priests are not often remarkable preachers – few have the kind of salesman savvy that many great preachers have. there are those few who are careerists, aiming to be bishops and important who preach powerfully on occasion. but our guy is no careerist. He has the ear, the timing, the spirit, the passion, the humor and the faith and most of all a knowledge of Scripture, history, spirituality and people that is beyond belief. He takes difficult concepts and brings them to a place that moves people to change their hearts and act. But, our pastor is also always in trouble with the higher ups – I mean always. We’re waiting for the shoe to drop – he will go too far toward preaching the Gospel and a bishop will silence him or make sure he is moved. It is frightening to the powers and principalities of the world when the Gospel is truly truly preached. I’ve heard Billy Graham preach the Gospel, and I’ve heard Fr. Richard Rohr of the Franciscans preach the Gospel. But, I’ve never been moved toward the kind of conversion that our pastor evokes from almost anyone in the pews. I feel blessed to hear him – even if I know for sure that he will be taken from us – he’s as dangerous a Christian as any I have ever known. May I sometime be as brave and true as he is.

OK, I’m downloading Pastor Jeff. Listened to the first one and – understand why David is listening over and over. Recognize a holy guy when you hear one.
