Christians and Ann Coulter, Part 2

Thursday June 28, 2007

Several readers point out that Ms. Coulter's words about Sen. Edwards were taken out of context. She did not say that she was actively wishing he would be killed but that, to avoid problems in the future, she should say it would be good if he had been killed in much the same way that Bill Maher said of Vice President Cheney. Here is her exact quote:

But about the same time, you know, Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack. So I've learned my lesson. If I'm gonna say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.

I was actually sitting across from Bill Maher when he went off talking about the Vice President. Maher didn't actually say what Coulter said he said. There's no need for further tail chasing here. Both of them were wrong. Enough said.

This does not, however, change my basic point - conservative Christian activists need to publicly distance themselves from her for the sake of the Gospel. Too many people in this world look at Ann Coulter and listen to what she says and think, "Ah yes, this is what Christians do." That is not, of course, true. What most Christians do is to love God and their family and their neighbors. But so long as the conservative Christian activists are in bed (metaphorically speaking) with Ms. Coulter it sends a very different message.

More of them need to follow the example of people like Dr. Al Mohler who has denounced her. Good for him and thanks to a reader for pointing that out to me.

The defining moments for unfettered , heartless , and compassionless conservatism in the 20th century came twice . The first time was during the 1930's in pre-war Germany , with the rise of the Third Reich and the subsequent slaughter of millions of human beings; including the attemp to exterminate a race of people ; the Jews of Europe. Conservatism has since brought the world such degredations of humanity as apartheid , segregation , and ethnic cleansing. During the early years of the AIDS epidemic, it was conservative Christians who , with hatred and malice-aforethought; vehemently opposed any funding into HIV and the development of treatment options . The subsequent delay in the production of medications denied thousaands even a fighting chance at additional life and thereby enabled the epidemic to decimate the continent of Africa.

Hugh (Bart) Vincellette proves that a lie told long enough with a mixture of some historical truth with it, will be believed as also being truth.

Nazi's were more like Liberal-Socialists (Progressive-Democrats) of today than the are like social conservatives of 2007.

It is conservative Christians that have been going throughout the world for almost two-thousand years trying to help people NOT get diseases like AIDS. Long before the 80's, Christians were warning of the consequences of sexual promiscuity. That's a fact of history.

By becoming Christians that do not engage in the kinds of behaviors that get and give a person sexually transmitted disease, disease would not get a foothold on the populace. That is a fact.

It is immorality, selfishness (hedonism), and ignorance that spreads diseases like STD's. Please note that condoms have little effect on the spread of STD's. Call your local free clinic for that fact.

So much for liberal hedonsim (Progressive ideology) replacing Christian morality.

Donny, I'll agree, then that if Ann Coulter represents Christians then Bill Maher represents liberals. That's fair.

Nevermind the fact that "mission work" is code for "rape and pillaging" in conservative christian circles.

"Mission work" means hundreds of millions of starving Africans are getting fed. It means hundreds of millions of orphans have a roof over their heads.

"Nevermind the fact that "mission work" is code for "rape and pillaging" in conservative christian circles."

No wonder this person posted anonymously.

Those are the kinds of idiotic statements that prove my point about the intellectual honesty that dwells within the Liberal mind.
