The fruit of the spirit

Saturday June 2, 2007

Just watch:What a beautiful man and what a beautiful life. Paul's words in Galatians come to mind:"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."What...

What a beautiful example Billy Graham has set for all of us. At an event to honor him he immediately pointed to the Lord and others, nothing about himself or his vast accomplishments. Oh what an example! David, when I heard the news the clip, "My whole life has been to please the Lord and honor Jesus, not to see me, not to think of me" I immediately thought of you and what you have been saying on this blog and in your book.

RIck - Thanks but how impossible that is to believe. I watched Graham and thought, oh how impossibly far I have to go.

David, It's your talent, passion, concern, zeal AND humility that attracts people from all across the spectrum, believers and non-believers alike. Sincerely, PW

Oh, heck David, when Billy Graham was your age, he was entranced by the powerful. He had to look hard at himself during the Nixon era and unlike many, he came out humble and repentant and knowing that it is never about the power. It takes a long time to get where he is now. I have known very young people who get it and very old people who don't, but the holiness we see in his life was hard to come by. I'm sure he had to go to the desert and give up the same stuff Jesus gave up in the desert. We just trust that our passion and love will carry us through. Just remember little St. Theresa - she understood the way and called it the "little way". Billy Graham certainly lives it out. I always need models to imitate - Billy Graham, his wife Ruth, Fred Rogers, Brother Roger of Taize, - so many models of holiness are put in our path.

That was wonderful. There are few people who make you feel the hand of God in their very existence. The lesson of the scripture is that that is true of us all, but you can feel it in Billy Graham.

He is a great man who has put God and His kingdom above politics. Many christian leaders are under the bondage of a politic party, and they don't have the freedom to preach the Gospel of Christ in it's fulness. Well done Billy graham!
