I don’t know, Mr. Kuo, anteaters may be just as helpless as humans in the wild, but they don’t go around killing their own kind because they have different textured fur or believe in a different anteater deity, nor do they go around mindlessly destroying the environment. At least, not without providing it with fertilizer…

Ah David, is there anything that doesn’t draw you closer to God? Collapsing buildings, anteaters, the Red Sox?

One of my favorite holy guys is a Francisan priest who said – Either everything created is holy or non of it is. When we open our eyes to God’s world – Everything draws us closer to God -Everything. Dividing the world into the sacred and profane – well – it keeps us on guard and perhaps safe – but it does not teach us of God. Even when I was a little kid listening to our minister preach fire and brimstone salvation, something deep in me said – it’s not about what the minister was preaching. I think I gave up salvation as fire insurance at a very early age. My mother recently gave me an art project I had completed at the age of 6 – God is love – is painted on the ceramic plate. There are times in life and in history when we forget that very thing, but ultimately it’s either all holy or non of it is. However, I do have a hard time with the Red Sox – the Cubbies – now there’s a holy team.

John – I don’t know – i guess it is a matter of orientation…striving to be oriented towards God and to seeing him in all things. And yes – the Yankees, the Baltimore Ravens, so much in politics, war to name a few…

So many unexpected things make me pause and think about the glory of God. Sometimes when I just look at the simplest things, like a hummingbird, a flower, even insects will give me pause. I just can see the complexity of nature as a sign of a sovereign God. The beauty of the sky, mountains and oceans show me the beauty of God. To me, it takes so much more blind faith to be an athiest than to belive in God. To think the delicate balance of nature could just “happen” without a divine architect seems impossible. Nature and beauty please and honor a great God.
