Adam as a mythological first man - the important part was that humanity was created out of profound love - no belly button needed for mythological figures. My question - OK so who did Cain and Able and Seth marry? (and that is the question that got me kicked out of Sunday School when I was four. My mother was told not to bring me back. I had too many questions)
Now Thinker, stay with this Friday's random question. We'll save yours for a future Friday. ;-)
OK, so check the Sistine Chapel. I believe he has one there.
As per my church's former associate pastor, who posted an answer to this very question on a church forum some time ago:
"Of course they did. Eve had an innie and Adam had an outie. However, they won’t tell me how they got them. I think they felt like they didn’t fit in and so the asked God nicely and at last they got belly buttons. God saw it and said it was good."
That's Pastor Jay's answer and good enough for me.
Can an analogy, a metaphor, HAVE a belly button???
As for 'fitting in', there were no other humans in this allegory for them to 'fit in' with!
P.S. "Eve" was "Adam's" second "wife". Now ask if Lillith had a belly button.
