Huckabee rising

posted by David Kuo | 2:39am Monday October 22, 2007

Andrew Sullivan has a terrific recap of the Values Voter straw poll showing that the true winner was Mike Huckabee. It makes sense. Now that Brownback is gone, his supporters are most likely to go with his ideological and theological brother Mike Huckabee than with his very, very distant theological cousin Mitt Romney.

Back...
I'm back here at JWalking after a bit of time because I just want someplace to record thoughts from time to time. I doubt that many of the thoughts will be political - there are plenty upon plenty of people offering their opinions on everything political and I doubt that I have much to add that will

Learning to tell a story
For the last ten months or so I've been engaged in a completely different world - the world of screenwriting. It began as a writing project - probably the 21st Century version of a yen to write the great American novel - a shot at a screenplay. I knew that I knew nothing about the art but was inspir

I have, I think, just one more round of chemo left. When I go through my pill popping regimen tomorrow morning it will be the last time for this particular round of drugs. Huckabee is shaping up as the 2008 version of Goldwater. He’s got the ideological purity so beloved of the enthusiasts. Maybe he can recycle the old AuH2O slogam “In Your Heart You Know He’s Right.”

“. . . than with his very, very distant theological cousin Mitt Romney.”
Please prove theologically, how Mormonism is connected – in any way, let alone distantly – to: The faith delivered only once to the Christians of the Apostle’s day? Christians believe that there is only one God. Now, I’d be more than happy to point people to Trinitarian apologia, but Mormons believe that they will become a god themselves. Well, the men anyway.
Mormonism is an outside theological perspective looking in at Christian truth. Not, a kinship.

“Money is the mother’s milk of politics. / And Huck ain’t goin’ anywhere without more milk.”
Well said. Possibly Brownback’s departure will give him the opportunity for greater fundraising as well? The biggest mystery is why Huck hasn’t gotten more attention in the first place.

It’s almost like the guys in the smoke-filled backroom have figured that the evangelicals will march off to the polls and pull the GOP lever no matter who they (the backroom guys) nominate. And they may be right!
Welcome to the Plantation, evangelicals!
What would be exciting here would be a real grassroots Huckabee revolt.
Mitt or Rudy?? C’mon, evangelicals! They’re hardly better! And one’s a cult member while the other is a public adulterer.
You watch how Limbaugh and Hannity and those guys push the backroom choice, how they fawn over Rudy. The fix is in, dudes.

Larry P. , you’re funny (your comment above) as well as being a very skilled writer. (On a serious note, best wishes on finding a communications job soon. I think you said you were between jobs just now.)

Thanks, DC Native — yes, indeed, I am between jobs. Just got another rejection letter from an interview today (sigh).
