Dancing... or drinking through life
I am not even sure that I know how to do a link anymore. I'm giving it a shot though so, three readers, please forgive me if I mess this up.
So Rod Dreher's sister is battling cancer. It is nasty. Their faith is extraordinary. Here's his latest post (I think)
There are 8 comments on it.

Back...
I'm back here at JWalking after a bit of time because I just want someplace to record thoughts from time to time. I doubt that many of the thoughts will be political - there are plenty upon plenty of people offering their opinions on everything political and I doubt that I have much to add that will

Learning to tell a story
For the last ten months or so I've been engaged in a completely different world - the world of screenwriting. It began as a writing project - probably the 21st Century version of a yen to write the great American novel - a shot at a screenplay. I knew that I knew nothing about the art but was inspir

And just one more
I have, I think, just one more round of chemo left.
When I go through my pill popping regimen tomorrow morning it will be the last time for this particular round of drugs. Twenty-three rounds, it seems, is enough.
What comes next? We'll go back to what we did after the surgery. We'll watch and measu

A Newfie for Obama
NPR asked me to do a short memo to the president-elect. I chose to do it on the dog he should choose... and why. Check it out.

Fair enough, but the recent Republican base is toxic to America and we don’t know yet who the current Republican base is yet.
Your post reminds me of this, though. For several years I worked at The Carter Centers Interfaith Health program where one of my occasional duties was ghostwriting speeches and articles. We worked with religious people of many faiths and one of the things you develop an ear for is how to talk about God so that people from different traditions will hear His name.
My sister and brother-in-law asked me to say the grace over the meal at their wedding reception. I was aware that among the extended family and many friends many religions and atheism were represented so I began the prayer “Oh, heavenly master…” An atheist in the party was offended with the blatant Christianity of my prayer while my brother-in-law’s baptist father turned to my sister while I was still praying and asked “Is Doug Unitarian?” You can’t please everyone with public expressions of faith. I don’t try anymore nor do I recommend trying. Some will always be offended because they feel excluded and some will be because someone else was included.

Just shows the wisdom of Jesus’ words regarding public prayer.
Matthew 6: 5-6
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Talk about ODD commercials. How about Huckabee’s Chuck Norris Commercial? Are we now supposed to take him seriously up here in NH?

David: Here’s a true American hero who has sacrificed for God, country and his fellow man beyond anything you can ever imagine — and you criticize his choice of words. To you, concepts of faith and Christianity are theories to be talked and written about. To Senator McCain, they were realities that kept him alive. You should be ashamed of yourself.

There’s not a single Republican in America who’s a member of AA?

BTW:
Paul Galanti is an interesting guy. And anyone who did that much time in the Hanoi Hilton, as did McCain, deserves our salute — regardless of the election.
