Grateful for every day...

Wednesday December 19, 2007

Categories: Faith, Popular Culture

A few months ago, Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett was paralyzed from the neck down in a freak football incident. The doctors were gloomy about his prognosis. Medicine and quick thinking and a bit of faith changed their prognosis. Today he is walking. Sports Illustrated ran a great story about his journey. He will never play football again. He is not the great athlete he once was. His thoughts?

"I'm comfortable with my situation right now," he says. "Some people, I guess it might take them a long time to accept things. But sooner or later, you're going to have to. And then you put your faith in God and let him show you the way."

Amidst all the fighting and beating and bashing this is a story about the important things.

I'm enjoying what you're doing with Christmas. Every day a story about good people doing good. Thank you.

Just as remarkable as all the work Everett put into his own recovery (with some otherworldly help, no doubt, too) were the innovative and even untested techniques his doctors used to first save his life and then give him the chance to walk again.
