Steve Jobs makes me tingle

posted by David Kuo | 12:24pm Tuesday January 15, 2008

He is doing his keynote at MacWorld… I can’t watch it live but am following it at Macrumors.com.
Four million iPhones have already sold. They are introducing new software for the iPhone – that includes a GPS-like map locator, the ability to customize the home screen and such.
They have introduced a new combination Wifi base station/hard drive to back up all your information – no more cables to hard drives… all wireless now….
…there will be more in the moments ahead… nothing earth shattering… nothing that won’t be forgotten months from now… but still, for us Mac junkies (cultists?), mucho fun.
Is it bad that this makes me tingle?

Back...
I'm back here at JWalking after a bit of time because I just want someplace to record thoughts from time to time. I doubt that many of the thoughts will be political - there are plenty upon plenty of people offering their opinions on everything political and I doubt that I have much to add that will

Learning to tell a story
For the last ten months or so I've been engaged in a completely different world - the world of screenwriting. It began as a writing project - probably the 21st Century version of a yen to write the great American novel - a shot at a screenplay. I knew that I knew nothing about the art but was inspir

And just one more
I have, I think, just one more round of chemo left. When I go through my pill popping regimen tomorrow morning it will be the last time for this particular round of drugs. Twenty-three rounds, it seems, is enough. What comes next? We'll go back to what we did after the surgery. We'll watch and measu

A Newfie for Obama
NPR asked me to do a short memo to the president-elect. I chose to do it on the dog he should choose... and why. Check it out.

On the other hand, I will commit the following heresy: Yes, it was stupid of me to immediately buy and install Leopard on my MacBook as soon as it came out but so far it’s a vale of sorrows.

Is it wrong that the thought of new software for my iPhone makes me tingle?!?! I heart Apple.

No, there is something about Apple – the beauty of it all – who will be first to get one of those skinny little laptops? Not me. I love my IMac – such fun for a left handed, rather ADD sort of person who thinks about theology a lot. I understand we are the Apple base constituency. I’m being tempted toward an IPhone, but darn, I can barely see the little numbers on my little Sprint phone – perhaps an IPhone for seniors can be next year’s product.
Like the idea of a wireless hard drive – I never can figure out where cords go anyway. Love wireless stuff.
Doug, thanks for warning me about Leopard. Apple gave me the software when they replaced my computer, but I never loaded it. Has it improved? I think I’m fine with the old version.

Thinker, as far as I can tell, the problem is with MacBooks only but it cuts out from input for sometimes a minute or three without warning and pretty often. I’m sure they’ll fix it but the first patch meant to fix it didn’t, so I’d wait.

Dear Dave: what does your Mac do that my Commodore 64 doesn’t?
Just wondering…
