And Uganda...

Thursday February 7, 2008

Categories: Faith, Social Justice

I am preparing for a little journey to Africa.

I will be visiting Uganda starting next week and I'll be blogging from there every day. I'll be going with a number of other bloggers to visit the work done by Compassion International.

The trip has been in the work for several months and yet I find it hard to believe that the time has arrived to depart.

I have wanted to visit sub-Saharan Africa for years.

Over the next several days I will be blogging about my preparations - spiritual and emotional more than anything else - and providing some background on the country.

I've wanted to write about this trip for weeks but every time I set fingers to keyboard I find myself unable to write. The trip has an enormous spiritual weight around it - one far greater than I can explain. But in the next posts I will try and do just that.

Have a great trip, David! Uganda is such a beautiful country...I'm jealous!

Godspeed, David! My brother is a spokesman for Compassion and our extended family all support children in various places. His son just returned from 6 months in Uganda, not quite sure where but it was quite remote, I know.

Keep track of how many times you hear the names "John McCain" or "Hillary Clinton" over there!

Prayers, and peace

I hope you get to meet the young man that I sponsor through Compassion International. But I'm not telling who he is.

He doesn't need to hear my name either. (canucklehead, good one)

But I do want to know if Compassion International is a good organization "over there."

David, may the Lord Bless you and keep you in His care.

I pray you find some thin places.

I've been to Uganda six times, four times in the last year. I go for my work with the Methodist Church and I'm 65 years old! The people are hospitable and gracious, the needs are great, and you'll have a wonderful time.
