I'm trying to find anger or bitterness or shock at all that John Edwards did and didn't do and said he did and said he didn't do.
There is, of course, sadness - sadness for all those people who worked so hard for him, sadness for all of those who he let lie to cover his sin, sadness for his self betrayal and more than anything, sadness for his children and for Elizabeth.
Beyond that? I've got nothing.
Why should I?
He was just a man running for office - just a politician running for president.
He had an affair.
Stop the presses!!
He lied.

He's narcissistic... really?
One of the dangers of modern politics is the temptation to elevate these frail creatures to super human levels... to put so much hope and faith in them that they become little gods. Look no further than the passion and hope attached to one Obama.
This is both an expectation too great for frail humans and a hope thoroughly and completely misplaced.
Politicians run to be leaders of our government, at most the chief executive of the government. Their power is sublimely and appropriately limited. Hopefully they can deliver on the limited things a government can touch. Beyond that, we are wrong to have 'faith' in them.
Faith is a word best applied to our relationship with God. We'd be better served and less angry and shocked at politicians' invariable foibles if we remember that.

Does it bring the same level of response to the manner in which Newt Gingrich dealt with his divorce by handing papers to his wife while she was in a hospital bed? If not, why not?
Or how about John McCain who left a sick and invalid wife for a women who has a hell of a lot of $$. And he accuses Obama of being elitist or even Edwards... Let McCain sell off 6 of his 10 homes and give the $$ to the poor.Why isn't the information about Cheney forging documents top news? Isn't that what we should be investigating?
I am deeply disappointed by John Edwards actions. Nonetheless, given Mrs. Edwards health I would say let the media leave them alone to work it out.
Well, if we want to entrust our own representation to politicians, have faith in their choices and decisions, on our behalf, then I sincerely believe the least we can expect is adherence to at least a semblance of ethics and morality. Just a little deviation from the norm, you say? What about the big issues that impact individuals as well as the country, at large? Where does frayed ethics fit in such cases? It puts me in mind of Congressmen, Senators and other politicians who report feeling aghast and outraged over prices at the pump, yet invest as heavily as their incomes allow, in oil! How much two-facedness and self-interest are acceptable to the average voter?
This is why David is right. We find it so hard to consider a politician's sin without thinking of the rectitude of competing ideologies. How many times do we have to see that politics can't make people virtuous before we believe it?
I was disappointed because on talk shows he really played the goody shoes to a tee expounding the importance of family values etc. Should have spoken of something else since he very well knew, as did others he had broken his marriage vows.
Maybe it is time to re-examine monogomy? Humans are living so much longer than previously and maybe monogomy is not realistic. Just a thought. I think honesty plays a factor if his wife knew and he was honest in his "transgression" then so what/ However, i have trouble with the lying and he as other people in the public eye know, without a doubt, they expose their families when they are in politics and their families, their loved ones, are especially vulnerable. I was not aware of Mcain's wife swapping this is my opinion shows motives we would not want in a leader, until he gives some of that money to help others I consider him a low life,
