Today is Day 14 of my 31 Days of Self-Love posts to celebrate Self-Love Month with suggestions for jumpstarting your own self-love.

Saying “I approve of myself as I am,” over and over, even if you don’t, can make it happen. You don’t have to love and approve of yourself to say it. As you repeat this affirmation, it will begin to sink in. It can take a long time if you didn’t even like yourself before, but it definitely will convince you if you’re open.

Of course this affirmation should be accompanied by other actions to show yourself love.

When I began to say that I approved of me, I didn’t even like me, no less approve. But I said it anyway, whenever I remembered to. I’d laugh at first, knowing how I really felt, wishing I was someone else so I could mean it. But after a while, it raised my consciousness about treating myself more kindly. The more I did and continued the affirmation, the better I felt. And slowly, I began to approve of me in my imperfect skin.

The more I began to really approve of me, the stronger my self-esteem got. The stronger my self-esteem, the more I did loving things for me. Saying “I approve of myself as I am,” over and over, built the foundation for the woman I am today. Try it! It’s a lovely day when you realize that the affirmation you forced yourself to say is now true! This is a great way to say, “I love me!”
