Law of Attraction in Action: How Saying “No” to Something Can Backfire

This is post 193 in my series on the Law of Attraction in Action. You CAN use your power to manifest your desires.. I do it every day! Read all the posts in my Law of Attraction in Action Series to see how.

Often we think we’re doing a good thing by saying “no” to something that’s not good for us or that we don’t want. You might be fighting the urge to have a big dessert when you’re trying to lose weight or that you’re not going to have financial problems much longer or saying “no” to another bad relationship. The trouble is, saying “no” to something negative reinforces what you don’t want.

Every time you affirm “No more bad relationships,” the Universe hears “bad relationships,” and guess what you’ll attract? Another partner who’s no good for you. If you say no more struggling to pay bills, the Universe hears, “struggling to pay bills” and you’ll continue to struggle.

The Law of Attraction doesn’t determine whether what you say is what you want or don’t want. It brings what you say. So while you may think you’re doing very well in affirming your desires, saying what you don’t want will bring you more of what you don’t want. That’s one reason people complain that the Law of Attraction doesn’t work for them. Even if you feel strongly about not having more of something, that something is what’s returned.

Anything you talk about gets included in your life experience. Even if you say you intend to have more money, if you include, “and not feel lack anymore,” you’ll weaken your positive intention. If using the Law of Attraction was as simple as just saying what you want and getting it, we’d all have what we desire. But there are many factors that affect what comes to us. Paying attention to how you state your intention, and making sure it’s all about what you want, not what you don’t want, gives your intention a lot more power.

Get into the habit of monitoring how you phrase things you want. It took me a little while to automatically phrase my desires in a positive way. It’s so easy to be disgusted and say what you don’t want instead.  I still do it when I’m feeling negative about something. But now I catch myself and correct the message quickly. Once you get the swing of framing your desires in a positive way, more will come to you!

Getting Up After Being Knocked Down
It’s not uncommon to have life circumstances knock you down. So much is out of your control. The people who ran in the Boston Marathon, or came to watch it, didn’t expect a bomb to go off. People get knocked down in other ways every day. It can make you want to stay in and avoid life. Or you may

I wrote the book, All Men Are Jerks Until Proven Otherwise, in 1998. Now it’s out in its 15th Anniversary edition because so many women found it helpful. Not surprisingly, I got questioned often over the last 15 years about the title being derogatory to men. It’s not male bashing. I believe that
