FotoFlexer_AnimationHappy September! I love this month and always call it the month of new beginnings. I guess I love it partly because it’s the month I was born in, so I begin a new year of my life. I remember when I was a kid and didn’t like this month because it meant the end of vacation and having to buckle down and return to school. Now I have a new attitude about this month of cooler temps and It’s a time to buckle down and get your life in order.

We move slower in summer. I know I get sluggish. Many people are away so less business gets done. I enjoy taking it easier because of that. But I know that after Labor Day it’s time to rock and roll. Cooler weather perks me up. People are back at work, ready to do business. There’s a different mentality in the air. This is a good time to take steps to empower yourself.

I advise you to look for ways to have your own new beginning. Polish up your resume. Take a class. Take a risk—try something new. Volunteer for a cause that matters to you. Go to events that offer networking opportunities so you can make new contacts. Take advantage of the crisper fall air and try something different. Even if It seems like nothing is coming from your efforts, you’re planting seeds that can bring you blossoms down he road.

Seeds can take time to germinate. Don’t give up on them! When I sent a producer at Oprah’s show a press kit I heard nothing—for 8 months. Then I got a call inviting me on the show for a topic that was perfect for me. The info I’d sent about me was a seed that the producer held onto until they had a show that was right for me. The potential rewards of stepping outside of the box you’re used to and planting your own seeds are worth it!

Affirm: Today is the beginning of me opening up my life.
