Break the Cycle of Recurrent Fearful States

posted by Guy Finley
QUESTION

I wake up every morning and this terror comes over me to the point of producing many physical symptoms. I want God’s life with all my being, but I feel like I am standing on a bridge staring down into the abyss and cannot move through this. Please help.

ANSWER

These fearful states are being produced by parts of your body and mind that want you to desist from your wish to know something of God’s life, and the freedom that comes with such grace. We all have certain “mechanisms” in us that will do whatever they can to hinder our awakening to higher impressions, and the soul stirring effect they cause, as we begin to be a bit more conscious. So, watch these fears, but do not engage yourself in what they “tell” you through whatever physical conditions they manifest. Resistance to fear is futile since the action is fear’s negative reaction to itself. Break the cycle by surrendering to it; hand the whole mess over to God with the understanding that the Divine already knows what you’re going through and, in fact, is actually causing these events to bring you closer to it. Persist… and you will move beyond the reach of what is now trying to wreck your life.

“Resistance to fear is futile since the action is fear’s negative reaction to itself.”
So,
How do I reach out to my enemy that has it’s own agenda?

And so…how, in a practical sense, does one in the throes of such fear do as you suggest. Saying “let go” and “surrender” and “don’t engage” are processes, not things that can be accomplish simply by deciding to. It is easy to say, “go ahead and do this,” but quite difficult, in reality, to put into practice.

How can I get past the resentment I have toward a neighbor I have had for more than 30 years who seems to live to make my life miserable? She has her family doing things to torment me. Her son for one, listens in on my phone conversations for the past five years, she has exhibited this fact by doing what I talk about to my brother. She has no worries financially or physically and I have both.
I divorced my husband of 25 years after abuse, before that my father was abusive and now this neighbor! This in turn has affected me physical as the doctors have all confirmed. The body can only accept so much and then it shows its weakness.
I pray and pray and get no relief. I would move if I could but I am physically unable to work and my son lost his job. Does God show His love this way ? I have asked so many for help and there is no answer that isn’t free. What would you do in my life to change my problem? I attend church but people seem to have their own worries and feel helpless themselves.
Thanks
