It Is Never Too Late to Change

posted by Guy Finley

It is never too late to change one’s life. Never. In fact, the only thing that wants us to believe that all has been for naught is the un-reconciled negative nature that needs us to continue serving it with feelings of futility and frustration. Truth be told, our lives are change itself; ceaseless, creative forces are never not moving through one’s self. Imagine a tree saying, I never changed, never will, and shall leave this world the same miserable creature that entered it; such a perception is clearly pure nonsense. We know trees are one with the great nature they serve, and that part of their relationship with nature requires that they change to remain in her service.

But, imagine further that in a tree there lived a part of it capable of imaging itself, of picturing itself and its relationship with life all around it. It’s important to realize that these images, regardless of how seemingly real…are not real at all…even though each time they’re remembered they produce (in the heart of the tree) certain familiar sensations; these are real feelings, birthed by a false reality.
In a sense, this world of images is completely cut off from the real world of changes. It seems to have a life, a past, and even a dismal future where nothing will change…but remember: none of this is real! So, while a real tree serves great nature and goes through the seasons, weathers storms, and gives shade to the creatures seeking shelter in its branches, the “false” tree changes not at all…it can’t change because it was never real in the first place. To see even a little bit of this truth is the first stage of true self-realization; it is the germination of an order of being that has no beginning or end, so how can it have ever been “wasted?”
Wake up. Let go. Live in the now, and not in the “when.” There is no such time, nor any person who has ever lived an unwanted life…yet, paradoxically, not wanting to be this “person” is what keeps you “there” where nothing changes! Who you really are is the awareness of change, all that changes within it, and the new life that emerges forever.
