Finding True Forgiveness

posted by Guy Finley

QUESTION

When do you know that you have truly forgiven someone? Although I have forgiven someone and myself, the pain still comes back at times.

ANSWER

You will know that real forgiveness has come into you concerning an offending other when you never again give any thought whatsoever to the one who hurt you in a negative or belittling way. Such forgiveness really does exist. Do your inner work and learn all that you can about your own heart and what lives within it presently. As you see what is True about you, forgiveness for others follows. Once forgiveness has been found within us for another, this marks the end of all forms of contemplating past conflicts and their pains.

The Practice of Ceaseless Prayer
Waiting on God, the practice of ceaseless prayer, working at quiet mindfulness: none of these measures preclude being active in life; what is required of us is that our first action is stillness, followed by  the willingness to receive whatever we have been given by Life.

Total forgiveness is necessary for the well being of the soul. I find it easier to forgive someone for hurting me than for causing pain to good people that I care about.
