See the ocean: it does not run after its own waves, as it knows they must return to rest in her depths. And so it is for us: whether we speak of joy, peace, strength, or love itself — no greater illusion exists than that we should somehow find, searching outside of ourselves, the source of our True Self.
~
Much as ocean tides surge and ebb upon waiting shores – always changing, yet changing nothing – your True Self is greater than any wave of thoughts or feelings that pass through it.

Been following Mr Finleys teachings since 2006. It seems the more I read and listen to the lectures the more life gets tougher. I do not enjoy life anymore and more aware of the pains (emotional) I feel. I know I have been conditioned to want things to go my way. Too late to go back to my ignorant self (would not want to anyway). Does the pain go away in this life time? I do feel peace and confidence in knowing there is a higher power in charge though. Am no longer as fearful as I was. Very strange?

Hi mamakalami,
My name is Eric and, just like you, I’ve been on this path for a while now — since about 2003. What you have said is right on the money. I have experienced the exact same things that you have described. The more we begin to observe ourselves, the more pain we see within ourselves. The fact is that these things were always there within us, but we were not aware of their presence before. And I also know well the dual feeling of “wishing I hadn’t seen all of this about my condition” while at the same time knowing without a doubt how useless and painful it would be to go back to the “old” life. I think you are on the right track, as anyone who has ever aspired to a higher life has gone through similar experiences. And Yes, everything does get better when we begin to understand more and more what our true role should be in response to whatever it is that is revealed within ourselves.

Hello Mamakalami,
As a long time student of higher ideas please remember it’s always the darkest before the dawn. This means that out of the dark state, dawns a new understanding which changes the lower nature. This is how it works, we have to go through these “dark nights” so to speak.
The good news is, the more we learn not to resist these dark times, they crease to be a problem. We learn to suffer consciously and they aren’t so painful. The pain is in the resistance.
As you continue to do your inner work, the peace you mentioned will grow stronger along with a feeling that all is well. And at times, your heart will be filled with a inward joy that’s makes pale anything you ever had to go through. We have never really lived until we have experienced spiritual joy!!
Never give up, never let the darkness win, its our birthright to know Real Love. Patricia
