98% of our thinking seems active because it’s always trying to work out some problem, or plan some pleasure (to get away from a problem). Seen aright, such thinking is really just a string of associated thoughts; they are the passive effect of a mind that never stops bothering itself in its struggle to protect itself from what it has imagined is at risk. But, when we will be present to ourselves, quietly watchful of the relationship that is always unfolding in the Presence moment, then we have no more need to prepare for what life will bring to us than a newly opened rose needs ready itself for the warmth of the sun that comes to release its fragrance.
