The Light of the World

posted by Guy Finley

Who is going to be the one who stops the wave of darkness on this earth? We are intended, each and every one of us, to be the light of the world — the point at which, in this world, light appears and stops the darkness.

Now beware — we are not supposed to be the creator of the light, but the individual who recognizes a moment of light from a moment of darkness, such as: “Look how impatient I am. Look how frightened I am… how greedy, how depressed.”

The only time we suffer is when we are in the dark. What we are willing to bear in the moment — when we are willing to see what is true — is how the light expresses itself in us. We are not intended to be self-conquering. We are supposed to be self-enlightening, and the light does the conquering.

The reason that Christ was crucified was because he came into a world where light was measured by shades of darkness, and in his very being, in his refusal to compromise what was true, by contrast everything was made to be revealed to itself. We are meant to go through the exact same thing.

Whatever it was in the split second where you chose the light instead of letting the mob rule, in that moment you knew you had done what was right, and when you did what was right, it was the same as the light expressing itself in you in this life. That is what we are supposed to be doing. That is what the whole of Christ’s life was about — the birth of light, the birth of a nature that does not alternate between day and night, a life that does not go between happiness and sadness, but rather one that is rooted in something eternal.

It is not complicated. It begins with the spirit of God touching a person and evoking the wish in them that says, “I think I want the light more than I want the darkness. Please let me live for the light.” And then don’t get caught up in what it means to live for the light. The light will come and do for you what only the light can do when you have done what you can do.

The World Beyond Preparation
Preparation, hard work, is part of perfecting whatever you’ve imagined you want to attain in this world. But there is a world beyond anything we can imagine; it is an intelligent presence, a “place” of powers and principles whose self-obliterating touch can no more be prepared for than can a m
