So glad you included "The King of Kong" on your list. What a great movie on a subject (classic video games) that seems impossible to make interesting.
Do you think "Once" has any chance at an Oscar nomination in any category?
Good to hear from one of my favorite fellow critics! I'm so glad you liked "King of Kong" -- what fascinating characters and what gripping suspense!
I'd love to see "Once" get nominated as best picture, but I think its only shot will be best song. With those thick accents, it could almost qualify as a foreign language film!
I can't believe you liked Into The Wild. That has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It was very long & very boring. Another mom and I went to watch it while our kids were watching Alvin and the Chipmunks. We were wishing we would have gone to Alvin.
Saw about half on the favorites list, and agree especially with Atonement and No Country for Old Men.
Agree with one on the runnuers-up list Waitress. Thought this was
well written, quirky and well acted. So sad about writer/director, but her legacy lives on.
Thanks for writing Cheryl -- Sorry you didn't like "Into the Wild." Maybe you were expecting something different. But I was familiar with the true story and found the movie adaptation beautifully written and acted and very moving.

the great debaters is one of the best true story movies that I have ever seen.and nate parker is one of the best new actors out there
I saw the great debaters last night and oh what a movie!!!that nate parker kid is really something special.he can really act.he had me so hooked on his character.thats one movie that I can say that I really enjoyed nd almost hated to see it end.I CAN'T WAITE FOR THE NEXT NATE PARKER MOVIE!!!!!!
I've been hearing a lot about The Great Debaters since xmas so I went to see it for my self.I can honestly say that that is a GREAT movie!The plot was good,and the acting was great.Nate Parker had me feeling his character.And do I need to say that Denzel and Forrest once again did some intense and great acting.And those other two debaters did some good acting.I would pay to see it again.
So I gather then that The Great Debaters is supposed to be a good movie ;-)
Just saw Juno and that certainly belongs on the top ten list, though any movie that has the audacity to borrow a clip from The Wizard of Gore certainly has my vote. One thing I like about indies, they're usually fresh and unpredictable. Of the ten or so movies I saw at the theatres this year, four were indies. That included Waitress, which I thoroughly enjoyed if just for the images of those pies.
Though it's not on your lists, I saw Year of the Dog was included on another critic's top ten. I didn't think it belonged there but I thought it a worthwhile watch. The Host was another indie that belonged on somebody's top ten, even if it technically was released last year. It saw limited release here in the USA this past spring.

Can't find age recommendation and review for JUNO in normal spots- can you help. 12 year old daughter wants to see it.
The review of Juno is here. I recommend it for mature high-schoolers due to the material (described in the review), but you may find that it is a valuable movie to share with your 12-year-old as a way to initiate some important conversations about choices and consequences. Let me know if you need any additional information.
