Four Christian stand-up comics join forces in this performance film that combines hilarious commentary on all of the absurdities of life with very touching glimpses of the men at home and their fellowship with each other. Anthony Griffith, Brad Stine, Jeff Allen, and Ron Pearson are talented performers who believe that their comedy can be a kind of testimony, bringing people to a place where they are more receptive to God. A live tour featuring the four stars of “Apostles of Comedy” will begin on November 10 in Northern California and make stops in over 15 cities before Thanksgiving. Venues for the tour will include large churches as well as theaters and auditoriums. Stops will include Phoenix, Tulsa’s Maybee Center, Dallas’ Nokia Theatre, Houston, Orlando, Chattanooga and Knoxville, TN.

Long ago, in a galaxy far far away there was a guy named Grady Nutt who performed Christian comedy. He was actually funny – and personable – and not obnoxious about his faith. He even had a TV series, though it was a very short lived summer replacement thing. Mr Nutt died shortly after, and I have not seen a Christian comic as good as him since. So, I hope these guys are up to the task. I hope they make a stop at one of our comedy clubs on the west coast of Florida (I recommend waiting about 6 weeks until we can pry the plywood off the windows).
Do you suppose this might make a mind bending double bill with “The Aristocrats”?

Grady Nutt was actually a Baptist minister. I love those who realize how much God loves laughter.
I enjoyed these guys very much. My favorite was Anthony Griffith, and his testimony about his own life is especially moving.

One word – platypus. That about sums up divine humor. I could lapse into political jokes here, but I am already weary of the political season.

I attended the comedy tour last month at our church. I would like to warn anyone who’s thinking of attending one that it may not be the family-friendly show you hoped for. There were definitely some worldly themes touched on, plus some sarcastic comments were made (mocking school/drug references & gestures) that I do not think belong in a “family” show. Please be careful – adults and kids – you may be getting more than you bargained for if you decide to attend.
