Contest: Bolt goodies

posted by Nell Minow

Have a “Bolt” fan in your house? The first person to send me an email at moviemom@moviemom.com with “Bolt” in the subject line will get some “Bolt” goodies — a wall calendar and playing cards. I will also throw in another dog-movie-related treat. Good luck!

MVP of the Week: Nathan Fillion
Nathan Fillion is this week's MVP, with performances in two very different films. In Pixar's animated "Monsters University," he provides the voice for the obnoxious campus jock. And in Joss Whedon's swanky, black and white, modern-dress version of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," Fillion play

Linda Holmes: Where Are the Women in Movies?
Linda Holmes of NPR's Monkey See blog has written a piece that is more than the usual "Why aren't there more women in/making movies?" There are 617 movie showings today — that's just today, Friday — within 10 miles of my house. Of those 617 showings, 561 of them — 90 percent — are storie

Claire LaZebnik Remembers A Visit from Patricia Neal
Claire LaZebnik wrote a beautiful piece in the Wall Street Journal about a visit from the late Oscar-winning actress Patricia Neal.  The first movie I ever reviewed -- for my high school paper -- was Neal's comeback film, "The Subject Was Roses" (with a very young Martin Sheen as her son).  Neal

M.M.
Have you reviewed “Bolt” yet (I saw nothing in the list to the left)? I was all set to dismiss it as simply a quick ‘n easy holiday film so Mom & Dad can shop. But then I read a couple fo reviews that were far better than I expected. As one animation fan to another, what is your sense of “Bolt”? It may be one I go see with my college-aged kids. But I would like to know your thoughts first.

You can always search for reviews in the search box or through the title index. I did review “Bolt” and it is here: http://blog.beliefnet.com/moviemom/2008/11/bolt.html
If you get a chance, see it in 3D. It is amazing!

OK, my face is crimson with embarassment. Not only did I read your review, I commented on it. Argh. My only excuse is feeble – I have had a cold for the past week and my head feels like it is in a mitten. OK, I will go see the movie – maybe even in 3-D. I hope my daughter is willing to go with her old man.
