Kaitlyn Maher, who enchanted millions with her appearances on “America’s Got Talent,” has a sweet, clear voice and a sunny personality. She is quite busy these days, appearing in Disney’s new Santa Buddies DVD and singing on the soundtrack. And she has a new CD coming out in December, You Were Meant To Be. Two singles will be available for download next week on her website. She will soon star in a new Disney film, “The Search for Santa Paws,” and is a special ambassador to help in the campaign to help poor children throughout the world. She has toured the US and abroad, singing before audiences in concerts, charities, and sporting events.

Imagine what she will do when she is six.

Yes, Kaitlyn is just five years old. And she and her mother Alison took the time to speak with me about what she is up to, from singing and song-writing to taking care of her baby brother.

Don’t forget to check out my Santa Buddies giveaway!

NM: Do you like being the voice of Tiny the puppy in the new “Santa Buddies” movie?

KM: He’s really cute! I love Tiny because he saves the day and is sweet and nice and cute, and he sings. He shares his love and that’s what I like to do! I think it is wonderful that I get to sing in the movie. I love acting but singing is my favorite thing do to. The song in the movie is “The Christmas Miracle.”

NM: How old were you when you started singing?

I was just one year old.

NM: Are there some Christmas songs on your new CD?

KM: “God Rest Ye” and “Away in a Manger.” My favorite songs to sing are “Amazing Grace” and “Daddy I Love You.” I helped write that song and another one called “Dreams Come True.

NM: Do you have a favorite toy?

KM: I have Samantha, the American Girl. We have some tea and we just play together and I read books to her. I sing to her a lot! I help my baby brother stack his blocks when he needs some help and when he can’t reach something that he wants.

NM: And what movies do you like?

KM: I like to watch the princess movies, “Cinderella” and “Snow White.”

NM: What do you love most about singing?

KM: I wanted to bless people and give them hope and help cheer up their day when they’re having a bad day. I never really have a bad day, I’m always reading books and playing with my baby brother and going to school.

Congrats…Grant it everyone has beliefs that we dont all have to agree with.My sons did modeling through an agency then started acting got the sag cards at 2500.00 a piece.the roles that they wanted my boys to play were terrible and with my religious belief we left hollywood. It takes so much time away from serving the lord and its sort of a dirty business thats corupt imho.Byt,as i said it started out exciting seeing the boys in magazines and movies being told they love my boys they actually love green money. And being a true christian i felt i was serving a different god hollywood instead of the lord savior jesus.I see so many people/parents get caught up with the money.glamour and bragging but,all good things end.keep god first

As a young child of 7 i did my first commercial rub a dud dolly.then onto disney movies or features as they were called.I think my mother and father forgot who the actor was as many of them do and they loved to brag constantly. As michael jackson said he just wanted to play sometime. As im sure the little girl wants normal playmates.i see my own parents in this little girls parents.hope the little girl has someone that can step in 2 tell mom to get a job and for dad to realize its not his dream or hers i thinks its all foolishness and an agenda for mom and dad

I had a very nice talk with Kaitlyn’s mother and found her to be entirely unaffected, supportive, well-grounded, and the farthest thing from a pushy, showbiz parent. She was appropriately protective of her daughter and had a good perspective on the challenges they were facing, and she is very clear about making sure that the focus is on what is best for Kaitlyn. That means that they limit what she does to what makes her happy and comfortable and make sure that she spends much of her time performing for charity and other good works.
It concerns me that this post about a very sweet 5 year old has provoked such skepticism and bitterness. Have you never heard of a 5 year old pretending to be a princess before? I wish the comments showed a fraction of the kindness and generosity I found in Kaitlyn and her mother.

I think what happens in these situations is that no one believes that kids can consent to these types of grown up situations. And many believe that the parents are stageparents.I think the kid is being thrown into every situation there is to wat degree they are willing to go who knows. My son worked on the tv show zoom when he was 9 and i told him he was staying in regular school and if he got big headed he was out.His life was completly normal. He also did two disney cruise lines and 2 movies then a soap opera general hospital. We parents that have had A LIST children in the business sadly can spot these type of stage type parents not saying they are but, interviews her child has given is different ‘i want to grow up to be a princess’obviously parents must be sadly sitting around calling her this.Guess what my son was called prince lol.when my son heard from mostly yes men night and day he started to believe it.i sat him down with the facts 1.your in hollywood-hollywood isn’t in you….your well known so there are hanger on trying to get a piece of the pie.cd’s saying they love my son this isn’t real its about the money.i told my son that this will not last dont get big headed or change who you are. Some parents wrap their entire world around this business and lose sight of whats real and what isnt and if everyone around you is telling you how great you are or how handsome you are thats what your going to be left with.happy to say my son is very well rounded and is stil acting no fansites for what brecause he is on a screen or on a tv show.these parents of showbizkids protect their kids but im afraid some parents see their kids as money makers and put them in harms way trying to get their name out there.its not a safe world and i would rather be safe then selflish promotions on site after site.

It is a terrible disappointment to see someone with an aspirational screen name about the love of God writing such bitter and mean-spirited comments. Please remember that while I welcome comments on the site, the rules here do prohibit insults — in any event, they never persuade anyone, so it’s counter-productive as well as rude. So if you want to make a point of some kind, you might want to rethink your approach and who it is who looks silly. Between your comment and my conversation with Mrs. Maher, she comes out far ahead in graciousness and kindness.
As DebbieSue’s excellent post shows, some parents of talented children can recognize that their first obligation is raising a decent human being.
Best wishes to all who posted for a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving and blessings on your and your families.
