No, sorry, I go to critic screenings and don’t have passes. Good luck!

I’m really looking forward to hearing your take on The Princess and the Frog. We are deciding whether this should be our daughter’s first movie. We’ve been familiarizing her with the story, characters, and music (my husband is a huge Randy Newman fan). But no pressure.

How old is she, Wendy? You will see in my review that this has some scary stuff.

When will your review be up on The Princess and the Frog? Our 6 year old daughter is supposed to go see it Saturday for a birthday party. I would love to know more about the film before she goes.
Thanks!

Hello, Sarah! It will be up around 6 pm on Thursday. Let me know what you think!

Yeah. She’s not quite 3. I’m guessing we’ll enjoy this on DVD in a couple of years. She’s not going to be disappointed, but I am. I just wish they would do theatrical re-releases more often (like they did when I was a kid). The DVDs are nice, but the experience is not the same. There’s something about the hand-drawn animation that begs to be seen in a theater. But I also don’t want to push her too fast. She hasn’t even watched a full length movie at home yet. The special double-length Dora and Diego episodes are as fancy as we get.

Very wise, Wendy. I don’t recommend full-length feature films until age 5, when they can begin to understand a story and not see it as random scenes. Maybe you can get a babysitter and see this one in theaters; I think you will enjoy it.

I can’t find your review of “The Lovely Bones”. My 3rd grader has been asking repeatedly to see it; based on the book, which I read, I can’t imagine letting her. She is very emotionally mature, and has an older (11 1/2-year-old) sister, so she’s seen movies beyond her years, but THIS?

Thanks, Gail. I am not allowed to post the review until Friday, but I agree with you wholeheartedly that a movie about the rape and murder of a young girl by a serial killer is in no way appropriate for even the most mature of 3rd graders. If you want more detail, email me at moviemom@moviemom.com.
