He had a few successes and some hard times….but in the end, he really was a good man. He contributed to his industry with his acting and directing. He will be missed.

Man what a year,this one really hurts Dennis Hopper was a one of a kind.I knew after i saw how he looked earlier this year when he FINALLY got his Hollywood star the end was near and it was.The way i will always remember Dennis is the shot of him giving the finger riding on his Harley in Easy Rider.Ride on my friend your legacy will live forever.

From his early days with James Dean, to this piece. Hopper moved through life on his own terms, come hell, or high water. Something most of us only pretend to do. Rock-on Mr.Hopper, it’s been fun…

Thank you so much for this tribute to Dennis Hopper, Nell. I’ve been following the coverage of Hopper’s death, and am reminded of that he was a really important and pivotal actor and representative of his generation of actors. Ironically, I always hated Dennis Hopper (or hated the characters he played) in the early part of his career, particularly in “Easy Rider,” and “Apocalypse Now,” but he really aged well. Getting clean and sober also seems to have worked wonders for his career and his personality.
Of course, he was terrifying (and funny) in “Blue Velvet,” and I do plan to see him in “Hoosiers” sometime even though sports movies are not my thing. I also loved the Ameritrade commercial he did. As one reflection on Hopper said, “If Dennis Hopper can plan for retirement, anyone can!”
A unique and wonderful American actor.
