John Paul II Had ‘Supernatural Qualities’

posted by nsymmonds | 3:33pm Wednesday April 2, 2008

United Press International – April 2, 2008
VATICAN CITY, Apr 2, 2008 (UPI via COMTEX) — Speculation regarding the sainthood of the Pope John Paul II escalated Wednesday as Pope Benedict XVI attributed the late pontiff with “supernatural qualities.”
Eulogizing at a mass commemorating the third anniversary of John Paul’s death, Benedict said ”among his many human and supernatural qualities, (John Paul) also had an exceptional spiritual and humanistic sensibility,” the Italian news agency, ANSA, said.
The head of the Roman Catholic diocese in Rome, Cardinal Camillo Ruini, closed the first steps of the beatification process at a similar mass last year.
Beatification is a phase on the way to full sainthood. Full sainthood requires evidence of a variety of theological qualifications, including evidence of miracles.
A French nun says she recovered from Parkinson’s disease when she prayed for John Paul’s intercession and claims of miracles attributed to the late pope arrive in Rome every week, Vatican officials said.
Vatican watchers expect a quick sainthood for John Paul II and some speculate the beatification date will be Oct. 16, the 30th anniversary of his election as pope, ANSA said. After that, if a second miracle it attributed to the beatified, that person would be canonized as a saint.

Supernatural qualities? Oh Please! He was just another human being, who happened to have a congenial personality. (for the most part). As to the Parkinson’s cure? I expect she was misdiagnosed. It resembles many other conditions. If she had it, it would have killed her within a few years.

Could he float in the air? He has no supernatural qualities unless he can float in the air for twenty feet, staying up at least a minute, as attested by an atheist magician who has the run of the test site.

wondering:
He who? I was raised in a Christian church, and decided a long time ago that “He” doesn’t exist. This site is a great place to learn and discuss all kinds of religious topics. Religion to me is a facinating subject. I enjoy the folks that post here and the interaction with them.

I always wondered why, in the gospel of john, Thomas was so rebuked for his skepticism. A man with supernatural qualities? Hmph, is it any wonder why people join cults?

Soeone buy this guy a comic book, send him to the movies, get him in converation with a couple of 10 year old boys. THEN he will learn about supernatural qualities. Until then, stick to theology, ecclesiology, and haggiology.

A few 10 year old boys and a commic book my eye….this is the magisterium of the mother church herself and although all of us sin that means you as well as me bucko you are not equipped to judge John Paul ll the Great he did alot for alot for us all and for you too if you would open your eyes to it he suffered much for our mother the Church and you’d best rethink your additude. We need him in our courner. It might be a good idea to rethink any idea you have. The lord and our lady pray for you. N.W. Euclid,Ohio,U.S.A.

Noni, it’s absolutely not my mother. If it were I’d declare independence. I need PJP in my corner like I need the Easter Bunny. And I’m at least as hopeful the Flying Spaghetti Monster will bless me with its noodly appendage as I am that any dead people are praying for me.
Dead people are dead. I’ll be dead and bucko you’ll be dead. Dead. You might as well get used to the idea. When a dog dies, it’s dead. When the Pope dies, he’s dead. When you or I die we’ll be dead. And wishful thinking aside, there’s no reason to think any of us will be coming back. None.

Noni, nnmns said it very well. JP2 was just another human being, who put his pants (did he wear pants or just his “robes”?) on one leg at a time just like everyone else. He was the CEO of a large corporation AKA the Roman Catholic Church and lived in a large beautiful building with folks to wait on him. He pushed the rules that are/were centuries old, and came up with new ones when he was inspired by the Big Dude (or Little Dude) in the sky. He did have a much better personality then the current Benny 16. However he didn’t do anything to advance the RCC, and Benny 16 is continuing to reverse progress. As to what he did for me? Nothing. The RCC certainly isn’t my mother. I’m not and never have been a Catholic. This dead man was not supernatural, no one is. He is gone, 6 feet under. His energy left the moment he drew his last breath and it returned to the universe.
We have as much right to judge him as we do to judge anyone else. He wasn’t any better than anyone else.

quote: “John Paul also had an exceptional spiritual and humanistic sensibility”. No spiritual sensibility as he could not differentiate between a demon posing as Mary and Jesus, but he had plenty of humanistic sensibility, as humanists place themselves on the throne where God should rule.
