Muslim TV Channel Founder Charged with Decapitating Wife

posted by nsymmonds | 5:48pm Tuesday February 17, 2009

New York (dpa) – The founder of a Muslim television station in the United States has been charged with murder after allegedly decapitating his wife, the channel’s website and local media reported Tuesday.
Muzzammil Hassan, 44, was arrested Thursday after informing police that his wife’s body was located at the Bridges TV office outside Buffalo in Orchard Park, New York. Police arrived to find Aasiya Zubair Hassan, 37, had been decapitated, the Buffalo News reported.
Muzzammil, who founded Bridges TV in 2004 to counter images of Muslim violence and extremism, faces second degree murder charges.
“Bridges TV is deeply shocked and saddened by the murder of Aasiya (Zubair) Hassan and subsequent arrest of Muzzammil Hassan,” the TV station said in a statement. “Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to the families of the victim. We request that their right to privacy be respected.”
Hassan founded the station with his wife but the two had reportedly become estranged and were seeking a divorce.

According to other news on this couple she had been physically abused by this man she was married to for quite a long time. She tried to leave him, and apparently this angered him to the point of killing her in a horrible way. Too bad she didn’t have a large Pit Bull guarding her in her office. Life in prison would be too good for him.

The often uncontrollable behavior of men who are being left to their wives is something we need to address more. Not only was I subjected to increasing abuse the closer I got to leaving my husband but I also had a coworker who shot both of his children in the head after coming to the realization that his wife was leaving him. From these stories and countless others, it’s become clear to me that some men do not handle these situations well. There should be more support for the men and women in these situations. The women should be protected and the men should get the support they need to not feel as ashamed/frustrated/enraged, etc. It’s not just Muslim men; it’s a problem that is in all religions and ethnicities.

Confessoressa,
I am sad to hear your story, but relieved to know you were able to leave and not be harmed. I agree that this sort of violence happens too often. The men need help before they escalate to fatal choices for their families and themselves, and for the survivors who are often filled with guilt and shame for a long time after.
That being said, I am saddened all the more by this man’s actions. He has not only killed his wife in a particularly horeendous and intentional way. He has also contributed to the violent caricature that has cast a deepening pall of the American Moslem community. He has not only killed his wife and forfeited his freedom, he has almost obliterated everything he said he has worked for through this TV station.
May God’s strength and care surround his family, may God’s peace be with his wife, and may God be more merciful than the courts are likely to be.

Anyone else see the irony? Sure, people of all beliefs kill their spouses from time to time, but this is as perfect as it is sad.

Hmmm… Sounds like another terrist attack with an unfortunate victim of the two tiered gender system in the some sects of Islam. This is the kind of story the liberal media hates when it thinks of George Bush or anything that smacks of good and evil. These Islamic mysogyny stories are in the media from time to time, with often gruesome results.

As sad as it can get….Seems that there was a separation of beliefs. What happened in private had nothing to do with public or were we just supposed to believe that one followed another? Or was this is just another prop to receive monies to get the show on? Lots of questions-no answers. Just hope there were no children to leave this hideous legacy to. Perhaps for the murderer himself…he alone…will have to answer the question…was it worth his freedom? He has some tough things to face within himself. All religions speak against the taking of another’s life..it is especially heinous when it is the one taken unto himself as an extension of himself (wife). What would he have done to a co-worker? Or was he really an insurgent here under false pretenses?

rubywoman, he’s left two children four and seven without a mother, and with a very sad past to try and understand in the future.

This is a tragic event and the children are going to have a long life to live knowing what happened to their mother. Hopefully there is a family member to take care of and love and raise them. It certainly won’t be their Dad! He should be sentenced to life. I wonder if he is sorry.
The manner of murder certainly isn’t common.

And if things keep going as they are with these muslim extremists, don’t be surprised that not to far away from now they will start pushing for their ways to be followed here in the United States by the rest of the population

This is a horrible case! Muzzammil’s wife was trying to leave him and he killed her without a second thought. The couples children did not matter, nor the life they had built. There is only one solution in my eyes. Muzzammil should be turned over in chains to the victims family. To recieve GODS JUSTICE!
