Christian Publisher Still Plans Kate Gosselin Book

posted by akornfeld | 5:58pm Thursday June 25, 2009

Should a Christian publisher still release a $30 book from one of the namesake stars of “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ promising “an inside look at one of America’s most close-knit families” after the couple has filed for divorce amid allegations of adultery and neglectful parenting?
Publishing giant Zondervan is still advertising “Love is in the Mix:
Making Meals into Memories,” by Kate Gosselin, for release in November. Amazon.com shows an Oct. 13 release date and a $19.79 sale price.
Maureen “Moe” Girkins, CEO of Zondervan, said the company, a division of News Corp.’s HarperCollins publishing company, was going to “work with Kate to reassess the schedule for her next book.”
“We are saddened by this news from the Gosselins and will continue to lift both Jon and Kate and their children up in prayer. We respect their need for time to focus on their family during this difficult time.”
The Gosselins announced a separation Monday (June 22) during an episode of their popular TLC network show. They later issued a statement saying divorce papers had been filed. The show is on hiatus until Aug. 8
Tim Penning, assistant professor of communications at Grand Valley State University in Michigan, said the publisher is probably going to need to hold off.
“It would be a fine line for them to try to sell this book with the kind of revelations that have happened,” said Penning, who teaches public relations. “I think the public generally understands that it was a good idea, but times have changed. Zondervan has to think about not just this product, but their brand and their reputation. They should also be thinking about Jon and Kate, too.”
The book was to be the third Zondervan title from the Gosselin family. The previous two titles, “Multiple Blessings: Surviving to Thriving with Twins and Sextuplets,” and the picture book “Eight Little Faces,” were bestsellers.
The 240-page hardcover is expected to feature Kate Gosselin’s nutritious recipes, advice on “how to craft family traditions that create happy memories,” and “meaningful mealtime blessings,” according to Zondervan’s description.

Sure the Christian publisher could go ahead and try to “make a buck”, but with the current situation, the Christian loving, perfect(ha!) example of a family is a bit stale and over with. Personally, my long standing opinion of Kate (seen the show 2 times, which was enough)is that she is a great example of a “B****”. IMO the show should be dropped…it has run it’s course. How much more does the public need to see a family with 8 kids “live their lives?” Hope Jon and Kate kept some of the big bucks they’ve gotten for allowing cameras 24/7 in their house. Kids have been used as money makers. AND why would anyone want Kate’s advice on anything?

Wholesomeness is as wholesomeness does, and we’ve been seeing the professionally wholesome falling apart before our eyes. John and/or Kate, Family Values Guy Governor Sanford, FVG Senator Ensign, FVG Newt Gingrich and on and on. It would appear that the more wholesome a person seems the less you should trust them to be wholesome.
And it’s just irresponsible to bear eight children in this day and age. Very irresponsible.

I’ve read the OT advocates death by stoning for adulterers (Leviticus 20:10)

And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

and Sanford, Ensign, Gingrich and so many others advocate the Biblical view so I just want to know why they have not, any of them, arranged to have themselves stoned to death. I’m sure it’s not for lack of volunteers.
Or is it possible the Bible is best when applied to other people, not oneself.

You always quote the Old Testament when you want to disparage the Bible. Is that because the New Testament doesn’t fit your preconceived notions about what the Bible says?
It is a free country. People can have as many children as they want, whether that fits your notions of what should be or not.

I’m not disparaging the Bible but rather the hypocritical conservatives who want to require homosexuals to live by what they claim it says, while they are not living by what it clearly says.
Yes, people are free to have as many children as they want, though in many cases I think we end up paying for them in various ways. In any case I’m also free to say what I think about it. What part of that escapes you?

Divorce is sin. In the instances when adultery pollutes a union, divorce may be allowed. Curing one sin by further sinning is not preferred, however.
Having children is not sinful, even if a couple bear several more than can be “paid” for.
There is no justification for condemnations from the left. There never is, but just to be clear.
The audacity of Liberalism.

Most certainly folks can procreate 8 to a zillion times if they want. However being able to feed them (octomom??) is rather important also. We liberals find loving, feeding and clothing, housing one’s children rather important. Usually better to have a plan to do that before having those children…one or more. Also find using one’s children as a way to get money ($70,000 per episode) not exactly “kosher”. But that’s just my liberal point of view. GC, missed your imput from the opposite, closed side. :o )

Guess those who get out of really bad relationships that may or may not have been polluted by adultry, must not have known that or they would have stayed married! NOT!

GodsCountry,
As someone who survived an incredibly emotionally abusive marriage and managed to get out despite great efforts by my ex to keep me in, I am horrified that some people still have such narrow-minded views on divorce and marriage. There was no adultery in my marriage but staying in a home where door knobs were taken off the doors so they could not be closed, my son and I were being secretly video-taped, and violence was regularly expressed not to my son and I but all around us in the home would be unethical in my eyes.
Sadly, my theologian brother did not believe in divorce except in cases of physical abuse and he testified against me in court calling me “flighty” for wanting out of my marriage. Thankfully, it took only moments for the judge to throw him off the stand stating he couldn’t believe a brother could do such a thing.
There are many people like you and my brother who are completely brainwashed by beliefs long past their time and while I don’t believe in Hell, per se, I sure do wish those of your like would stop putting women in my position through it.

Liberals, from BHO on down the rolls, argue from weakness, including; straw-man, deflection, re-assigned meaning, reinterpreted logic, projection and outright lies. There is no “there” there. Empty, light-weight, blown about by the slightest breeze…meaninglessness upon meaninglessness. What success there has been is only because the window dressers have worked overtime.
Truth exists. The proof is right here in front of your noses, but you refuse to see it. The ability to communicate, understand and know. No truth, no nothing. Just animal instinct and worldwide chaos. No pagans, Christians, Hindus or scientists. Nothing. That is not currently a definition of humanity.
The audacity of Liberalism.

GC, I guess the post from YN above telling of the trials she went through didn’t entitle her to a divorce, huh? Guess she is a sinner in your book. No adultry involved. Such BS.
You’re are, of course, in the USA allowed your opinion. In a religiously run country…No. Some on the RR might be comfortable in that environment. There are several countries that have no tolerance for liberals…so with today’s transportation one could be there in a heartbeat.
Personally, I do see the proof of truth “in front of my nose” and believe me, it is not your version.. set in a 2000 year old, man written, contradictory book. I’ll stick with my “audacity of Liberalism. “have a liberal day”.

GC you make empty claim after empty claim. As pc points out you put your trust in tales of a man who may have lived (and, of course, died) 2000 years ago and whose story has been disagreed about and edited and twisted innumerable times and, most importantly, whose story lacks any credible documentation.
There were people and governments writing down a lot of things back then but nothing of all the miracles he’s claimed to have performed has survived that wasn’t in the hands of those wanting to start and further the Christian religion. And there are some striking parallels with earlier stories from roughly the same area. So those miracles almost certainly didn’t happen and his story was cribbed.
So I understand why you make empty claims one after another; you have nothing solid to build on. But it’s not too late; open your eyes and see that all your faith is in a hoax and look around for something believable to believe.

GC, what is your honest opinion on Kate getting her book published? Should the Christian publisher still do it since the loving couple is doing what they should have done a long time ago…divorcing? Do you think J & K plus 8 is still so popular that the book will go flying off the shelves and be on the NY Times Best Seller List? Just curious to know what you think….besides “divorce is sin”? You do know about the NY Times best seller list?

GC,
Shouting in a very, very loud voice from the pulpit can indeed get people to believe in nonsense.
On a comment board, you actually need some rational basis to be convincing.
Try logic 101 at your local community college, Bro.
“Because I said so” is the crux of all of your posts. You don’t actually hope to sway people with that attitude, do you?

Yet again, GC, WHAT TRUTH? Yours isn’t necessarily anyone elses. And yes, there are books on Paganism (older than most religions…and has survived wonderfully well). Yes, even books on manners, home decoration, cooking, etc., and even witchcraft as well as demon worship. Guess what, Paganism isn’t “demon” worship nor are those that practice witchcraft “witches”. Good thing there are alternatives to Christian books.
