Anti-abortion activist Randall Terry is calling on people to burn effigies of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid this Halloween, as part of a “Burn in Hell” video contest to protest the health care legislation in Congress.
Terry, founder of Operation Rescue, said Tuesday that the contest serves as a political and spiritual statement that “gives people a chance to peacefully vent their rage.”
“If Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid force us to pay for child killing and they die unrepentant, they will burn in hell for this,” Terry said in a telephone interview.
But House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., called the contest “unfortunate.”
“I don’t think appealing to people’s anger and in effect inciting them to acts which either display or in any way project violent acts is consistent with rational discussion of very critical issues,” Hoyer told reporters.
A YouTube video of the contest instructions shows how to print a poster of Reid and Pelosi and construct a stand for it. The clip shows a person dousing the Democratic leaders’ images with flammable liquid. The next scene shows their picture going up in flames. People are then encouraged to take pictures, record and submit online the footage of their Oct. 31 protests.
“No, this is not a threat to their body,” an unidentified man says in the instructional video, “but it is a threat to their soul.”
Terry insisted the contest was not a threat to Reid or Pelosi. He contended that the Democrats’ plan to overhaul health care would allow federal funding of abortion.
Currently a law called the Hyde amendment bars federal funds for abortion – except in cases of rape and incest or if the mother’s life would be endangered. The law applies those restrictions to Medicaid, forcing states that cover abortion for low-income women to do so with their own money. Separate laws apply the restrictions to the federal employee health plan and military and other programs.
The Democrats’ health overhaul bill would create a new stream of federal funds not covered by the restrictions.
House Democrats are trying to address anti-abortion lawmakers’ concerns by specifying that people receiving government subsidies to buy health insurance couldn’t use that money for abortions.
The top prize in the video contest includes a weekend in Washington during the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.

This does not impress me as a sound idea. In picturing dismembered babies; this was done by abortionists. In picturing people up in flames; this was done by those in this contest. On a certain, moral level, those abortionists and those contestants end up equal.
Cut the contest, Randall…it can have no winner.

Terry should worry about his own “soul”…since he feels he has one. If hell existed, he’d be the first one in it with his extreme measures to try and stop women from controling their own reproduction. Prevention is always the best way to halt abortions, but it that fails, as I have said before….safe and legal means should always be available. Blowing up pictures of something that is the size of a strawberry in the early stages does no good.

He’s incapable of a serious discussion; he just wants to make news and get donations. And I’m guessing he secretly hopes abortion is never outlawed so those donations never stop.
Likewise Republican leaders so anti-abortion votes never stop rolling in.

Maybe someone should initiate a counter protest where people take pictures of fetuses and burn them and videotape the act! Yeah, that’s the ticket – let’s show ‘em how much we love them by burning fetuses in effigy. So loving. So Christian. So nutzoid.

RoevsWade is a legal law. People who choose an abortion for whatever reason they have, are not breaking the law, people who attack and kill the doctors that do this operation are the law breakers. People who make these little drama stunts as Randall Terry has with Reid and Pelosi are inciting more anger, not helping anything. The Halloween instructor states that Pelosi and Reid are not harmed physically and then ends up threatening that their soul will be if a law isn’t passed in the new Health Plan to exclude abortion payments from the health plan. Ridiculous! These people, the fundamentalists, are acting like crazy people. They don’t want seperation of Church and State? With a mind-set such as this it becomes more necessary every day.

Randall Terry is the very worst kind of media – well, there are several nouns I could put here, but let’s leave it with the very gentle – “exhibitionist”. He will do anything for attention. So arresting him would seem to feed his need for martyrdom if nothing else. However, ignoring him might lead to some escalation in his efforts – and I would not discount some form of violence as a means for more attention. So my guess is the best thing is to do as little as possible, giving him the barest minimum of satisfaction by simply placing mute counter-protesters with their backs turned toward him and his minions.

Randall Terry is just the kind of person who just wants attention from the public and nothing else. The most worst part is that he will do anything for that. Such men should be just put in jail for arousing the people for such a protest and declare him as a threat to the society.
