NEW DELHI (RNS) In an unprecedented probe of exiled Tibetan Buddhist monks, Indian officials want to know why top Buddhist leaders had $1.5 million in cash stashed away at their headquarters in Dharmsala.
Police seized $1.5 million of cash in Indian and foreign currencies, including Chinese yuan, in a recent raid on the monastery of the Karmapa Lama, the No. 3 leader within Tibetan Buddhism.
Addressing his supporters on Thursday (Feb. 3) for the first time since the raid, the Karmapa Lama called allegations that he is a Chinese spy the result of “misunderstandings and mistakes.”
Indian officials have suspected Chinese links with the 25-year-old Karmapa Lama ever sever since his 2000 escape from Tibet. The Karmapa Lama’s office has said the money was “unsolicited donations” from followers from around the world, including in mainland China. Other monasteries are now expected to face investigation.
“India, in contrast to communist China, is a free country, a democratic country that is based on the rule of law,” he told his followers. “Therefore I trust that things will improve and the truth will become clear in time. So please be at ease. There is no need to worry.”

These holy fellows Have been betraying and cheating India since a very long time. Finally they have been caught.
here’s more trouble for them.
Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje :The Gyatso monastery, his temporary, and land on which it is built have been found to be illegal and can be confiscated by the government, the police said in Dharamsala on Wednesday.
The Himachal Pradesh government had neither approved the land purchase nor the construction of the building. The monastery records have been seized and a detailed report submitted to the Centre. The monastery was constructed on around 10 acres of land, previously owned by 70 different people, and allegedly fraudulently registered under the names of Arun Dorje of Rajmukh, Mcleodganj and Prem Singh of Bhuntar, Kullu.
A source said the registration and purchase of the land were carried out with help from corrupt revenue officials as the names and addresses of the land owners were not clear.
A police investigation revealed that, on paper, the land was sold on November 15, 2002, whereas the monastery had been constructed before 2000. The police have questioned the Karmapa’s office regarding this matter. The Karmapa was granted refuge at the monastery in January 2000.
Take them to your country and then give sermons to Indians.

First of all, when you quote or like in this case just copy whole articles, please name the source.
This is something that even most of the journalists seem to “forget” in their articles regarding this issue. Like “A source said…”. Who is the source?
There have been a lot of badly researched or even malicious articles, and the Office of His Holiness answers to those made up accusations in detail on their website. So, if you are really interested in the matter and not only in perpetuating your hatred, do some research and at least read, what the accused have to say. http://www.kagyuoffice.org/
I wonder, how many Tibetans do you know? Do you know any of them personally?

This is not surprising as to admit it would exact life imprisonment and a life sentence and with the Dalai Lama becoming an Indian citizen , he has no locus standi to defend the pretender Karmapa. The Indian IAS is not stupid and their secret service are one of the best in the world. As a refugee, he should live like the rest of the refugees and not have accesss to unaccounted money as this is not becoming of a monk. The Vinaya does not allow a monk to touch money and even then , even if it is a donation it must be acccounted for. The Dalai Lama has historically never been the person to recognise the Karmapa as he is a Kagyu and the Dalai Lama a Gelukpa. It is rather the Sharmapa who has that role albeit there is political tension between the Dalai Lama and the Sharmapa which complicates the issue. The Indian secret service made an excellent point as to how a car can bypass all the blocks unless he was allowed free access and his initial visit to reclaim the hat was at best suspect. This is why , the Indian government felt that he had run out of options and had no where to go except the Dalai Lama.
