Jewish Group Gives Passover Cheer for Beck’s Exit

(RNS) A Jewish organization is celebrating Passover two weeks early, proclaiming freedom from Glenn Beck’s television show.

Jewish Funds for Justice, a social advocacy nonprofit, has taken credit for the polarizing personality’s pending exit from Fox News.

The group waged a yearlong campaign of petitions and newspaper ads complaining to Fox owner Rupert Murdoch about Beck’s use of Nazi language and imagery, attacks on Holocaust survivor and philanthropist George Soros, and comparison of Reform rabbis to radical Muslims.

In addition to Jewish Funds for Justice, a number of other groups, particularly liberal-leaning ones, protested Beck’s show, which has seen a months-long decline in viewership and sponsors.

Some Jews, by contrast, laud Beck’s vocal support for Israel.

The conservative commentator still has a weekly radio show that airs on more than 400 stations, reaching millions of listeners across the country. His “Glenn Beck Live” tour includes stops in Cleveland and Chicago this month. In July, he will be the keynote speaker at the 2011 Christians United for Israel summit in Washington, D.C.

Nevertheless, Jewish Funds for Justice has proclaimed victory in a statement that uses the grateful Passover chant Dayenu! — “It would have been enough!”– to celebrate the anti-Beck campaign’s fruitful end.

“If the Jewish community and our allies cried out in one voice when Beck compared Reform Judaism to radical Islam, Dayenu!” the group said in a statement. “If thousands of our supporters invested in and sustained us to do this work, Dayenu!”

The statement concludes, “This Passover, let us celebrate the expanded freedom in our public discourse.”

Just proves how spiritually blind an entire slice of religious quiche can be. Beck, a Mormon, who claims to be “Christian”(oxymoron) and the vast majority of evangelicals are pro-Israel to the max. But along comes just a very small snippet of Judaism, radically liberal in social issues, that can’t see the forest for the trees. You’d swear by the company they keep that being anti-Israel, by George, is politically correct in their deluded minds. Let’s wait for Messiah Yeshua to separate the sheep from the goats!

cmaglaughlin, evangelicals only care about Israel because it’s part of their “end of the world” nonsense. They could care less about most individual Jewish people since they don’t believe Jesus is their Messiah. Hence their blatant hatred of Jews (and other people) who don’t blindly support Israel the country in every action it takes, no matter how morally questionable.

Also, where do you get off saying Glenn Beck can’t call himself a Christian if that’s what he believes he is? There’s hundreds of definitions of what it means to be Christian. (Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, Anglican, Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Jehovah’s Witnesses, etc, etc.) What makes the LDS/Mormon definition less valid than the rest?

Mordred8,
Puleeeze…Do you know how stupid a statement you are making concerning the love Christians have for Israel and the Jewish people who do the same. Before Christ enters a person’s whole being he is, as Jesus said, “of your father, the Devil.” After, he is filled with the Holy Spirit, and granted a spirit of obedience to “love and pray for the peace of Israel.” Many Jewish believe in Messiah Yeshua. Many believers are hated and made mockery of by many of their neighbors and families. Nobody chooses Christ, “I chose you,” Jesus said. Those who hate individual Jews, “I have no part in,” Jesus said. Just as there is only one combination to a bank’s safe, there is only one Way to become a Christian. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father, but by Me.” He also said, “Except you believe that I AM(God), you are lost in your sin.” Mormons believe Jesus was the brother of Lucifer. Need I say anything more, other than, grow a brain and google Christian Apologetics.

cmaglaughlin: “Many Jewish believe in Messiah Yeshua.”

And a lot of Jewish don’t.

“Many believers are hated and made mockery of by many of their neighbors and families.”

If they act like you about it, the mockery’s understandable.

“Those who hate individual Jews, ‘I have no part in,’ Jesus said.”

Then how do you explain the centuries of antisemitism associated with Christianity?

“Mormons believe Jesus was the brother of Lucifer. Need I say anything more”

So I’m guessing you believe in a man who was born of a virgin, could heal the sick with a touch, died and came back three days later and now exists as a god who grants his followers eternal life. Are you really in a place to call somebody else weird just because they believe the miracle worker’s brother was the devil?

cmaglaughlin, speaking as someone who grew up in the Christian faith, I am having some difficulty determining what you are rambling about. You speak ill of people because they do not share your self-assured righteousness about what you interpret faiths to be. And yet, I do not recall Jesus telling His disciples to hate and ostracize those who are different or unsure.
Are you one of the faithful, or just a nihilist?
