Iran’s Supreme Court has upheld a death sentence of a Christian pastor for leaving Islam. He was reported to have been given a choice on Saturday, July 2, to repudiate his faith in Christ or be executed.
Yousef Nadarkhani, 33, had appealed to the Supreme Court after he was sentenced to death in 2010 on charges of “apostasy”, or abandoning Islam, by the Revolutionary Tribunal of Iran’s Gilan Province.
The advocacy group Middle East Concern, which has closely followed the case, said his lawyers have yet to receive written confirmation of the Supreme Court’s ruling, “but understand that the [death] sentence could be implemented at any time, unless he recants his Christian faith.”
Yousef, who has been in prison since October 2009, was a pastor in the evangelical ‘Church of Iran’ underground house church network in the northern city of Rasht.

There have been similar incidents in Pakistan and this could happen in any Islamic country. Islam is not a religion of tolerance. The traditional Christian churches in Iran, which predate Islam, are tolerated but not allowed to make converts.

To Allan: maybe you can say the same about the “tolerance” of christian churches during the medieval periods. Does witch burning, inquisitions, book burnings and murder of the illuminati all ring a bell?
In Islamic countries….you leave Islam and make it public, you’ll be punished. We could care less if this guy converted to christianity…Islam gains more converts than christianity does…but to make his deceitful conversion public is grounds for punishment.

For SULTAN the dead past is forever alive in the mansion of his ever present loathing. He should rather consider the Christians of the era that now surrounds him, … Christians as they have become and as they have learned to become, and this by the force of their evolution, spiritually, toward an ever fuller assimilation into Christ and his message. Consider the Muslims of the present as they intend to remain and continue to remain, in the past, and this in the apparent belief that acquiescence to the inevitable force of their spiritual evolution, which they are conditionally required to deny, is antithetical to the specious necessity of the immutable stasis of their minds. Whereas the former flows increasingly in sync with the spirit of Love, the latter is solidified into the ice of a steely cold belief. For Sultan quantity is quality, a fact which inspires me to draw the inference that his mansion is built on the premise that form takes precedence, supreme precedence, over substance. His beliefnet title, Sultan, which etymologically denotes ‘power’, giving rise to its reference to a ‘ruler with power’, reminds me of a sullenly clever Nietzche. Nevertheless, I pray that the Holy Ghost may haunt our sullen but clever Sultan into becoming a Muslim of true understanding and care, even care for the likes of the ilk he deems beneath him. Scilicet Ab Ambagibus.

Iran is a country were they are trying to destroy the christian faith among the young people who want to embrace Christianity. they think Christianity is a treat to the islamic establishment. as a matter of fact they want to drag the youngsters into heaven by chains. christianity and ethnic christians are tolerated over there and they are not even allowed to spread this religion. I believe that every human being has a right to choose his own religion of choice and by choosing their religion of choice is something personal between God and the person. but the people of this barbaric regime want sit in God’s position and decide the good and bad for the people

This is an excellent example of why should not be so quick to proclaim ourselves a “Christian” nation. The chritian extremist “taliban” would have everyone convert, leave, or – well, the other option is not a good one. Our diversity is our strength, their uniformity will become thir weakness.

jest shame on you “pastor jester” I know no Christian Taliban and neither do you that’s just a nasty attempt to put down Christianity strike a blow at good. With those who claim to be friends of Christ like you why would He needs enemies.

oh how lucky the rulers in Iran are, and how jealous conservative Christians in the USA are of them …..reminds them of the good old days.
