Make that hundreds of thousands. The Global Humanitarian Forum released a comprehensive study saying that annually, 300,000 people die from global-warming-induced catastrophes. Climate Change also already direcly affects the lives of 325 million people (seems a low number to me) and causes over $125 billion annually in economic losses (that might be the biggest statistic from a political vantage point).
Global Warming is tremendously expensive, and it’s only going to get
worse. Of course, we tend to like hopelessly expensive phenomena, such
as the War on Terror, so maybe we’ll let the climate crisis hang around
for a while. It’s quite American to pretend you can afford things you can’t. That’s what credit cards are for. Maybe we are just treating Mother Earth like a high-interest Mastercard, and we like it that way.
This is not a future-thing anymore. This is not a “if we don’t do something, things will get really bad” type of situation. This is right here, right now, and it’s already happening.
I really hope we aren’t already screwed by Climate Change.

we are aleady screwed. it is too late already. we need to plan and build and site POLAR CITIES now. for future generations of survivors. for us, it is too late. see my polar cities at any google window….

Werner Herzog touches on this briefly in ‘encounters at the end of the world’. according to scientists he spoke to in Antarctica-we are pretty much fu**ed, no backsies. see the movie if you haven’t, it’s beautiful.

During the last few years it has become very fashionable to harp on only one string all the time.It is climate change and global warming though actually the world temperature has come down and the level of sea water has decreased. Only by planting an addtional two billion trees would suck up the co2 not only of land but of ocean and biosphere which together contribue the largest share. But then this madness that is spreading accross the vast land mass is creating another havoc.No to coal fired power plants, no to atomic power plants , no to automobile(except expensive electric), no to consumption and as a consequence fast going downhill. The twenty million unfortunate Americans who have lost their jobs for all these no would find it extremely difficult to find their job back.
