This week’s entry began as a long angry article about the scarcity-and-fear-based argument against universal health care and making sure that all humans in the United States are able to be healthy. It ended as a western-form Haiku that would even fit on Twitter (thanks Patrick Groneman in Bushwick for the cooling off and Jacob Schere in Tokyo for the help).

The President is focusing on health care when the economy and jobs are nearly everyone’s top issue. Nearly 9 our of 10 Americans say they HAVE coverage, and large majorities of them are happy with it. Of the 46 million uninsured, 9.7 million are not US citizens. 17.6 million have annual incomes of more than $50,000 and 14 million already qualify for Medicaid or other programs. This leaves less than 5 million people truly uncovered our of a population of 307 million. Most Americans don’t believe this problem — serious but correctible — justifies the radical shift away from current coverage. Although the President claims it will save money, it comes with a huge price tag. Workers are rightly concerned that they will not be able to keep their current coverage, because businesses will drop their health plans and pay “the fine” equal to 8% of payroll cost, much less than what is now paid by employers for empoloyee coverage. Look at Medicare which will be gone in the next 20 years…how can this be any better? This is not a “long and angry” comment, it is based on facts. People in this country owe it to themselves not to be sucked in by an emotional plea and investigate the situation, Health care “reform” is more than just “politics” but will wind up changing completely the freedoms we now enjoy to pursue our own path with regard to our health options.

The fundamental question is, why do the United Stats have come to a state of a faulty healthcare system. It is the only country in the first world without a national, govenment-supported healthcare plan.
In reality, we have third-world conditions: Healthcare is available, but only the well-to-do can afford it. Hence, American healthcare is a scandal, not a system. Surely everyone can buy healthcare “insurance”, but all it ensures is unaffodable deductibles and eclectic policies. Healthcare should never be for profit. That in itself is unethical! Healthcare is a common good, a human right, just a public safety, equalty before he law and access to uncontaminated food are. When will we as a society stand up against the current healthcare insurance scam and institute real healthcare?
