CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked Nobel Laureate, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, about his apparent brush-off from the newest Nobel Peace Prize Winner, President Barack Obama. The Dalai Lama, in the fashion of embodying peace, was quite gracious. Blitzer, in the fashion of a cable news journalist, went probing for controversy. I don't think a CNN or Fox News Anchor will be winning the prize anytime soon, but then again, why stop the surprises now? Here is the One City Blog commentary on the failed meeting between the two men from earlier this week. Have a good Sunday. Promote Peace!

We don't foster peace by stirring up controversy and inflaming people's passions into hatred.
China is a complex political problem. In trying to manage complex political problems, politicians often have to make choices.
First of all, as far as outer appearances are concerned, they are not the only thing that is occurring. We are not privy to the private world of political leaders. Do we know if Obama did not call the Dalai Lama privately? That kind of thing goes on all the time. Where public statements are made to save face, while different things occur behind the scenes.
I do not think there is even one chance in a million that Obama does not deeply respect the Dalai Lama and the cause of Tibetan freedom.
The outer steps he takes can have grave consequences for millions. So, let us not presume that we understand everything based solely upon outer appearances.
If China - US relations de-evolve down into another Soviet Union - US cold war...that could be the absolute single worst danger to the entire world. So, if someone has to receive a public slight to facilitate harmony in that dangerous relationship, it may be the necessary political cost.
If, over the next few years, we watch the Administration's stance on international human rights issues, I think we will clearly see a President as devoted to that cause as any President since Kennedy.

As an earlier post was titled, "Learning to Sit Down and Shut Up" is what Blitzer should have done
during his interview with HHDL. Wolf is not the brightest...dare I say a few french fries short of a Happy Meal?
The reason Obama didn't engage His Holiness openly is that we have so debased our economy that we cannot afford to annoy our Chinese overlords. We have so destroyed our currency with foolish wars and predatory shell game capitalism that the only value left to the dollar is China's willingness to keep buying it (giving us endless loans). They could tank our economy tomorrow if they wanted. All they have to do is decide to sit out one or more Treasury auctions. If you think this economy is tough, envision it with 20% interest for housing and automobiles, $10 a gallon gas etc. Due to our own greed and foolishness, we will be lucky to hang onto a semblance of national sovereignty over the next generation or two.
