On Fire: Finding Your Gift And Using It

On Fire: Finding Your Gift And Using It

Dream or Die

posted by grose

Have you stopped dreaming?

You no longer:

–Draw amazing possibilities in your imagination?

–Invent solutions?

–Craft new ways to communicate your idea?

–Scheme work-arounds?

–Imagine what your key relationships could be if you went back at it?

–Wish for the stars?

If you dream no more, I ask you—why?

Blocks in your way, problems, regrets, mistakes, failures, no fellow-dreamers, just plain fatigue…

Clods over your casket. All.

Here’s the truth:

There is no such thing as treading water, staying the same…survival. Life marches on.

We all die.

Dreaming rescues you from the death march.

Lifts you up into the realm of “sky is the limit.”

Shoots you straight through to possibilities;

and on to impossibilities.

Makes your earth-bound mind and heart come alive.

Helps you change the world,

which is why you are here

(as you already know).

To be human is to be a dreamer. It’s the basic activity of being alive.  Yes. The. Basic. Activity.

Everyone needs to be reignited now and then. Here are some of the books and quotes in my collection. I offer them in hopes of setting you on fire once more.

BOOKS:

The War of Art: Break through the blocks and win your inner creative battles by Steven Pressfield  (An easy-to-read, powerful guide to keep on your nightstand and refer to frequently)

There’s always Time for Greatness: Who did what when from ages 1 – 100 by Andrew Postman (An inspiring collection: Did you know Martha Graham premiered her choreographed work, Maple Leaf Gala, at age 95?)

I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was: How to discover what you really want and how to get it by Barbara Sher (See this and every other book by this author. She’s the master at helping you find your niche: www.barbarasher.com)

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis (These seven magical books will restore your brain’s ability to imagine again.)

The $100 Startup: Reinvent the way you make a living, do what you love, and create a new future by Chris Guillebeau (Practical guide for working on your own. This book is new and hot!)

QUOTES:

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure.

- Helen Keller

A man’s life is interesting primarily when he has failed — I well know. For it’s a sign that he tried to surpass himself.

- Clemenceau

Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.

- Goethe
