Struggling, Stuck and Sick: What to do?

For Our Lady of Weight Loss’s Sake! WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE!!! by Janice Taylor, Life & Wellness Coach, author, columnist and 50-pound big-time-loser.
If your thoughts and words are steeped in negativity, if you are telling yourself that you are struggling, that you are a loser, that you are stuck and that you are sick; what do you think the ultimate outcome, the results will be? More than likely depression and weight gain.
I received the following letter from one of Our Lady of Weight Loss’s readers. Knowing that she is not the only one who speaks in this manner, sees life in this way, and manifests aches and pains, I thought I would share it with you.
Special thanks to “NLP” for being brave and open and sharing her feelings and thoughts with us.
Dear OLofWL ~ I have been struggling with weight all of my life. I am a yo yo weight loser. I am now sort of stuck due to Arthritis and stiffness along with other issues. But I do want to lose weight.
After working 36 years, I retired and got stuck with child caring for my two grandchildren that I love to death. Nevertheless, I hadn’t planned on taking care of them every day. Due to the fact that I was less sick than and not as selfish as the other grandmother, I am stuck with it.
I can lose weight and did, but I needed help. I went to obesity specialists who gave me b-12 shots, appetite suppressants and a diet. This was the only way I could lose the weight. Now I am retired, and I don’t have the monetary resources like I used to.
I have a love interest that I met six months ago online. A very nice gentlemen whom I will one day meet in person. I sent him a picture of me 30 pounds less than I am now and would love to get back to that and more. At least 75 pounds.
I love sweets; junk food; etc. But I know what I need to eat, and I know that I need to have will power. Thanks for any advice. ~ NLP
Dear NLP ~ If I may, I would like to look at some of the language that you are using. It may be useful to explore the thoughts that are getting in your ‘weigh,’ as you think, say and write that you CAN NOT lose weight and believe that you are STUCK, and that you have NO CHOICE.
Our thoughts manifest our realities. If we keep telling ourselves that we are struggling, suffering, stuck, cannot and have no choice, then that is what is so.
Let’s turn it around. There is no such thing as will power, only want power. You have to want to permanently remove the excess weight enough to make inner and outer changes. And I can see that you have plenty of want power! You have grandchildren that you want to be around for; you have a love interest (go girl!) and most important of all, you love yourself and you want to give yourself and your body your best life.
Healthy eating will have a positive effect on your bones, your aches and pains and your mind. Another good reason to pump up the want power.
You are retired (woo hoo!), and you have the time and resources to start your own group. You know what to eat. You said so yourself. And you have the want power. Now create support!
Think Outside the Donut Box. Gather your friends and family and start your own Kick in the Tush Club Chapter. It’s free. You can swap recipes, dish the dirt, support each other and just plain have fun. You can sign up for ‘the daily feed’ for my Beliefnet blog and automatically get a very helpful and witty (if I say so myself) plateful of inspiration, motivation and solid information (almost) daily!
And as for having to be the full-time babysitter. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. Practice saying, “No!” Help them come up with alternate plans. It’s selfish NOT to take care of yourself, to give yourself the time you deserve. You can’t give when your batteries are empty!
Now, repeat after me. I CAN do anything I set my mind to. I CAN give myself the time I deserve (after working 36 years). I CAN be the best ME ever. I CAN, I CANI CAN!!!!
Seriously, you can. I so totally believe in you and know that you can. So, get busy now turning your thoughts around first. Your life will follow. Start a KITT Club Chapter! And keep us in your loop. Help yourself to a second helping of LIFE! We are rootin’ for you! ~ OLofWL

I absolutely LOVE the e-mail from OLWL I get everyday! It helps me to stay focused on my ultimate goal of there being less of me to love. My theory about that is that I will still have all the love from all the people who love me, it will just be divided by fewer pounds!
NLP, remember what OLWL has said, and put yourself first in all things. As for your ultimate weight-loss goal, don’t let it overwhelm you. I find that if I think of the total amount of weight I want to permanently lose, it is sort of scary, and I think “I can never lose that much.” Instead I just try to lose three pounds at a time. The last four days I havn’t been focused and have managed to find the three pounds I had lost. GRRRRRRRR!!! Today I’m back to focusing on what I’m eating and (more importantly) WHY I’m eating. So far, I’ve permanently removed nine pounds. (HOORAY for me!!!)As I have multiple sclerosis, physical exercise is pretty much impossible for me. The one exercise that has been super-effective for me is pushing my fat butt away from the table. In other words, I stop eating when I’m full, and don’t continue eating just because it’s in front of me.
OLWL is right about your having lots of WANT Power reasons to succeed. Best wishes for you and your gentleman friend.
