It’s All Good. Or is it? by Janice Taylor, Life & Wellness Coach, Cert. Hypnotist, Author, Columnist and 50-pound big-time-loser. (write Janice for free consult.)
It is called the Pygmalion effect and it’s a fact:
If you expect the worst, you get it. Thoughts are not just a bunch of insubstantial bits of information that enter our minds and fade away into the ethers; thoughts are things. Our words, ideas, beliefs – our thoughts – shape our lives.
Thoughts have a profound effect on our capacity to see opportunity and take action. Positive thoughts lay the groundwork and enable us to actualize what we desire.
We create our reality. We are the stars of our dramas. Circumstances do not determine your happiness or unhappiness. You do! When your thoughts are in alignment with your desires, your desires will magically materialize.
And while you may feel absolutely justified as you scream, cry and carry on over gaining a couple of pounds, you might want to consider if your actions are ultimately constructive. Does getting upset and angry help? (No. In case you’re confused.) It may well catapult you into a downward spiral.
Practicing positivity does not mean that you are a happy idiot. It means that you seek solutions! It means that you understand that you are the pivotal character, the star (not the victim), in your drama. You are responsible. No pity parties!
For instance, let’s just say hypothetically that you went to a party in a foreign country where you knew no one except the host, and the host was clearly lacking in social graces and did not introduce you to a soul. Do you sit in a chair and smile like a happy idiot? Or, even worse, smile and stuff yourself with chips, dips and pigs n’ blankets. No! You are the star of your story. You introduce yourself to the other players, and you have the best time, harboring no ill feelings for the host.
When you cease playing the victim and you feel that you are worthy and that your dreams are within your reach, you are more likely to imagine positive situations with happy outcomes. You easily and effectively navigate the roadblocks.
Happiness is a practice; something to be developed. Exercise your joy muscle.
