For Oprah: 200 Pounds of Weight Loss Tips

Thursday December 11, 2008

I'm still wrapped up, more or less, in Oprah's 200 pounds. I can't stop thinking about her process, and wondering what she might have thought or felt the first time a zipper busted along her 40 pound weight GAIN journey....

Hi Janice! I write from Japan, passing 10 days here. I certainly am no expert in the Japaniese culture but just by the first impressions I can say: Nobody can be fat here (or so I wonder). The meals served consist mainly of raw or grilled fish, saltless rice and soy sauce (both breakfeast and dinner, for lunch I was served noodle soup). Not so bad, it actually is kind of delicious (although, for breakfeast I dream of something more ... well ... you know... ). Although there are a few fast food restaurants around, it seems to me that this whole culture practices what you pray. There is nothing fattening available or so (and still: I WANT my sweet stuff now and then. But then: This exactly might be the reason why I still fight with my weight instead of experiencing the peace you're talking about...). Sayonara.

I noticed she was starting to gain weight, but I didn’t know how much. I read here (www.projectweightloss.com) about her solution to this weight problem and, wow, she’s so brave.

Speaking as someone who's followed your progress as well as my own(with your help), I think that Oprah would truly benefit from a weekend with you. You've changed my life as well as my outlook regarding my "self" - a thing we could all use!

I feel badly for Oprah and of course I am in the same boat as she is, we both have gone up and down many times in our battle with weight. One thing that people do not talk a lot about but it is so important to discuss is genetics. Obviously if you come from a long line of overweight/obese people it is a lot more likely that you yourself will be also. And it is a lot harder for you to take weight off and keep it off. Obviously if it were easy everyone would be their ideal weight. I think Oprah's problem is she was striving to be a weight that her body does not want to be at, if it did it would stay there more readily. Add to the fact she is in menopause (as I am also) and they compunds the problem. Our bodies are changing and the metabolism ain't what it used to be. Exercise is important but we can't kill ourselves either. We are not spring chickens anymore. So what is the answer? Moderation. Extremes are never good and when Oprah did that all liquid diet, I think she killed her metabolic rate. Once she stops dieting she balloons back up again. And fast! The key for me is to get on a program of eating healthy and evxercising regularly and having realistic expectations. No I will never be a size 2, I will be very happy to be a size 10. And once I am I know I can stay there as long as I stay on the program!

I have watched Oprah since the day she started. I have watched her fat and I have watched her thin.
I understand her relationship with food. I have the same problem It's not that I am hungry it is food is so delightful. I eat when I am happy, when I am sad and when I am hungry as I as sure she does.
I am a Oprah fan forever, she is and always will be my girl. I will pray that we will both overcome this addiction to (good) food. I love and respect Oprah however she is. KICK in the TUSH!!! I don't think so she is doing enough kicking herself what she needs is our understanding.

I go back with Oprah- the personal trainer, "In the Kitchen with Rosie" "clean eating" the 5k runs, etc
I think Oprah should stop trying to "lose weight" and just be whoever she is- maybe some people are meant to carry extra weight.
I'm not saying she should engage in unhealthy habits, but after 20 years of yo-yo-ing, and with millions watching, maybe she should
re-adjust her expectations-
Then again, at the risk of sounding snarky, her weight loss issues
are always ratings crowd-pleasers, so there you go.
I saw a photo of her at what was quoted as 160 lbs and she looked great- more than she should carry, but she looked sexy and it's a weight where she can enjoy food and not stress so much-
In any case, theres little room for excuses, because she can afford
all the help anyone needs
I guess we'll have to wait and see what she decides and how her choices pan out this time-
