How Mean Are YOU?

janice before-after postcard copy.jpgHow mean are you? To others? To yourself?
Our Lady of Weight Loss has received hundreds if not thousands of emails from readers who ‘confess’ their self-sabotaging and mean-spirited words … all directed at themselves! Words, thoughts and sentiments that belittle, bring forth feelings of shame, are harsh and even abusive.
“I’m fat.” “I’m disgusted with myself; I’m lazy.” “I don’t know what’s wrong with me.” I hate myself.” “I’m a pig.” “I have no willpower.” “I’m a loser, and I don’t mean in the spirit of weight loss.”
Here’s an exercise that both builds confidence and strong bones, originally published in my first book Our Lady of Weight Loss: Miraculous and Motivational Musings from the Patron Saint of Permanent Fat Removal. You might note that we (Our Lady of Weight Loss and I) prefer a ‘light’ approach to a ‘heavy’ topic. There’s no reason that you cannot have fun, smile, think ‘lite,’ be ‘lite’ … while lightening up, is there?
Now, get ready to ‘lighten up.’
While you are busy steaming your veggies, how about some positive self-esteem talk?
Be sure to compliment yourself at least three times a day!

I love my NuYawk accent.
Look at me – steamin’ and e-steemin’. I am great!
I’m a good person. I just smiled when my mother said, “You’re not giving away your fat clothes, are you? What will you do when you gain it back?

What nice things might you say to yourself today? Comment below!
Change your mind; change your weight!
Fill Up on AFFIRMATIONS!
Increase Your Luck; Decrease Your Waist Size!
Motivated Forever?
Spread the word … NOT the icing!

Dysfunctional Chef: Sloppy-Joe, the Ultimate Comfort Food
Anyone out there remember the "Manwich?"  In 1969, Hunt's introduced its Manwich Sloppy Joe Sauce and it revolutionized the Sloppy Joe.  It sure was a staple in our kitchen.  My mother, the gourmet, used to break it out on special occasions.   No disrespect meant, Mom.  :) Here's

I have been really goofing up with my weight-loss program lately and have also been telling myself that I don’t have any will-power and that I’m a pig. Tomorrow is a new day and I’m going to to tell myself that I choose to be healthy and that I’m a good person. And I also plan to stop goofing off with my weight loss program. I want to get back on it because I have gained some weight and that isn’t good for my knee’s and back. It isn’t good for my whole body period.

I sometimes need to remind myself that I’m not too fat (at size 10, though I’m down from 18) to go out in public. It’s hard for me to make the effort to try to dress sexy or look good.

I do a bit of word trading. Instead of calling myself fat, I use “fluffy.” It reminds me of something cute, lovable, like a bunny rabbit. So the WORD itself brings a smile to my mind instead of something demeaning like the word F-A-T. Shhhh…don’t say it out loud. Oh and being a baby boomer, I never use the word “crone” as it sounds like a car part…ew. Baby boomer sounds like someone have fun, doesn’t it?
Loving yourself makes room to love others. You don’t have to be perfect to be loved, or to love yourself.
Everyday we make choices and sometimes we make bad ones…the nice thing about life is that it comes at you day by day…so you can always start over.

There are so many time pressures in our daily lives that it’s sometimes difficult to find the time to devote to ourselves and we just let things slide. We need affirmations to reinforce our beliefs whether it’s from others or ourselves and this is especially the case with weight loss where staying motivated is vital to our success. You can succeed and you will succeed if you live your dream. Visualize, interrnalize your newer, slender self and that will provide the motivation for you to succeed with you weight loss program.
