How many books and movies do we need to read and see, how big of a kick in the tush do we have to have before we wake up and say – no, yell – “Enough,” to the food industry?
Here follows a bad tasting tidbit about the food industry that I feel compelled to share with you. It comes from Robyn O’Brien, the author of The Unhealthy Truth.
Did you know that Kraft Macaroni and Cheese is formulated differently for countries in Europe than for the U.S.? I didn’t either until I read The Unhealthy Truth.
The fact is, that in 2008, Kraft removed artificial colorings, like yellow #5, and chemical sweeteners, like aspartame, from the products that they distribute in Europe, Australia, and other developed countries due to consumer concern over scientific studies that link these synthetic ingredients to hyperactivity and asthma in children. But, they haven’t done the same thing here in the U.S.! Our voices are needed to make that change here too.
Get harmful chemicals out of mac & cheese. Kraft did it in Europe, now they should do it in the U.S.
The vast majority of American homes have Kraft products. Together, we can affect change and have these ingredients removed from the products that Kraft distributes here in the U.S.
If you would like to join with us and express your concern, you can easily send Kraft CEO, Irene Rosenfeld, a letter asking that Kraft value the health of our children as highly as they value the children in other countries. And please then share this email with friends and family so that they too can send a letter.
What will it take for us to speak up and demand that the big corporations put the health of our children and grandchildren before profits?

My first response would be, don’t feed it to your children. You can make a better mac and cheese yourself with a little butter and grated cheese.
But I’ve had kids and I know how they like the Kraft stuff. I also know how convenient the Kraft is, especially if you’ve got other tots running around.
Still, I think I’ll do my little own personal boycott as well as join your effort.
Aspartame. Shees. Totally unnecessary. AND it makes you fart.

You are correct in that we need to let our food makers go more natural for us. Of course, we need to do our part by not buying the product in the first place. Changing the kid’s diets is going to take a while, but I believe moms and dads are trying to make a good change for themselves. It is a family affair! I like to make my own stuff anyway. It is not hard to do, except I think the cheese industry needs to help us out by going more natural. Artificial stuff sometimes make a strange bedfellow?! Lots of thought and love should go into our kids, don’t you think? Nancy Roberts.

If you don’t have the time to make your own macaroni and cheese,
There is an alternative, if you can afford to do so.
The company “Annies” makes several mac n cheese varieties. All of them are organic, without artificial colors, flavorings or preservatives.
They have a cute bunny on the box, and my daughter likes it.

wow!!! I know alot of package stuff is bad, and as a whole we do alot of home cooking in our household, however my 5yr old nephew is EXTREMELY picky eater and one of the things he eats alot of is the craft mac and cheese, has to be the spiral… and if some of u are skeptical as to the truth of this, my 5 yr old nephew is hyperactive as well as asthmatic… wow ok well no more mac and cheese of that kind, but now i need to find something else for him to eat…thank you ever sooo much for this artible I will be reading urs from now on…

My son too was hyperactive until i read the book. The Feingold diet. red dye surely was a big culprit as well as artificial preservatives. Has anyone noticed that kraft is a whole DOLLAR higher than any other mac and cheese?! with that money they could skip some advertising and make it better! anyway, after i got my son eating more whole foods/ 75 percent and still had some of the other stuff, his grades in first grade went up and away and his over activity down. It’s amazing how starved his brain was and his body even though well fed. These additives should be severely limited in food. i know preservatives are necessary for shelf life. It’s just sad that it’s all come down to this and for over 60 years this stuff has been in and added to our food.

This is trash: fear mongering without obviously researching all the information. I think this writter only read the articles she agreed with. people, puh-leeze don’t blindly buy in to everything you read. RESEARCH for yourself and make truly informed decisions. Do you still believe that child vaccinations contribute to autism? And just because Europe does something doesn’t mean you should too. Once upon a time Europe thought thalidomide was safe for pregnant women.
I don’t eat Kraft Mac & Cheese because I prefer to eat organic as possible, not because of yellow #5.

Pam,
You and others like you are clueless. You tell people who have first hand experienced improvements in there childrens lives, and you tell them they’re not doing the proper research. I have personally seen what happens when you remove some of these things from childrens diets. And I’ve seen what happens when you put them back in. In the future, please try to comment on topics about which you have some knowledge.

i have twin girls with autism. one of them, a few years ago, wouldnt eat at all, gagging at the smell of certain foods, and lived off of pediasure prescribed by a doctor. now she is eating and growing normally, but one of the very few foods she will eat (and her twin sister with autism also will eat) is macaroni and cheese. i always expected kraft to hold a higher standard in food quality, guess i was too trusting in name brands. i tried clicking the link to send an email (in the article) but because i have web based email the link was no good. is there a direct email address that i can write? if i just do it through customer service i know i will be given the run around and my email wont make any differance. thank you to anyone that can help, and i definately wont be serving my kids boxed mac and cheese until this is fixed.

Try making your own mac and cheese! I have a kick tush recipe in my book “Our Lady of Weight Loss: Miraculous and Motivational Musings from the Patron Saint of Permanent Fat Removal.” And I”m betting there are a ton of healthy recipes on the Internet. If we don’t buy unhealthy foods, perhaps they will get the message. So … Cook On! Be Healthy!!!

There may be something to what Taylor is saying here, but the article doesn’t say what it is specifically in the Kraft Mac and Cheese that is of concern. I read the article carefully and it never actually mentions which chemicals are present in this product.
Just want to be clear as to what the title of the article says and what it actually says in the article.

I have a grandson that loves mac and cheese. He has asthma and we had no idea that mac and chesse could affect him. Why can Kraft not treat Americans as well as they do other countries? It seems a shame for a company to keep putting ingredients in their products that cause harm to people who trust their company enough to buy their products no questions asked.

I just can’t believe that this kind of thing can go on here in AMERICA. You say your an AMERICAN company but you don’t value our health over EUROPE. Who the hell are they. I have two children 10 and 13 they have been eating Kraft mac & cheese their whole life and they both have asthma and my 13 yr old also is considered ADD.
No more Kraft mac & cheese for them. I will only buy the one made with real cheese. Like I did before my children.
This is an outrage.
